Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Meanwhile in Wyoming, they're blowing the snow from one side of the highway to the other. Maybe they have a good reason for that...

My old bike isn't quite 10 years old -- just 9. Seen here in it's original configuration. Spring of 2014.

The only lanes I'd want to be in if I were in Wyoming right now would be the southbound lanes.

I’m no DOT expert, but that seems counterproductive.

My mistake, I assumed from the sun's position this was a N/S highway but apparently it's the I-80, right in here somewhere

Nope, not going to go there.

Bad enough I have to go to St. Louis this week.

Already below my comfort zone down here. It's currently 28F.

I'm sticking with fat tires.

The Allez had 25mm GP4000s on Kinlin XC-279 rims (17mm internal width). Currently, 28mm Vittoria Corsas on Roval CL50 rims (20.7mm internal width).

For much of yesterday I think you were lucky to get as far west as Laramie, however.

As a retrogrouch, I like to think it's 99% the engine, and I reconcile the moderate difference in the video based on sample error, placebo effect, more aggressive (aero) body position, and possibly aero wheels.

Any thoughts?
The difference on the flat between 6:41 and 6:17 works out to 6.4%. So, maybe it's 93.6% rider and 6.4% bike?

When I was benchmarking my bikes on my 25 mile route, the difference between the fastest bike (Canyon) and the slowest(Mrs. Peel) was 0.9 mph, which worked out to about 5%. Now, I am not an ex-pro, AND I have 25 years and probably 45 lbs on Si, so I was undoubtedly going considerably slower, so the aero gains would be less important.

The faster you go, the bigger the difference will be.

Garmin just announced it's Valentine's Day sale. Maybe your sweetheart will get you one of these.
