So my Ultralight 2012 tour went so well with under 10lbs of gear, I'm going for it again. Same deal; barely carrying a thing. Minimal camping gear, no off-bike clothing, and ounces shaved wherever possible.

To make that easier, does anyone know where I can pick up two Salsa Anything cages? I have been unable to find them online.

I wonder with them sticking out in the wind how many watts of power they waste ? Does aerodynamics matter .

I expect to put mine on my front forks. They'll be behind the front paniers, so will have no effect on wind resistance.

Who am I kidding? I ride so slow that wind resistance is miniscule anyway.

They have had some breaking problem with them......supposedly they are making them stronger.

I am under the impression wind resistance is a concern for slow riders to . I wish I had a power meter so I could see what effect they have watt wise

I also have heard a lot of complaints about them being flimsy, but have you heard something specific about new versions being beefed up?

Apparently King Cages is planning a Manything Cage



They say it is a more durable alternative to the Salsa cage.

I ordered two Bike Buddy cages but have not installed them yet.

I've heard many complaints that you cant use panniers "and" anything cages.
I can confirm theres not enough room on an Ogre. I'm unfamiliar with the Fargo.
I do suggest you check first.
I'm using two frame mounted BBB XL Fuel Tanks on my Ogre which handle 3 liters combined

There is also an Everything Bag? I think it's called.....Made by one of the frame bag people,fit's on Surly 3 bolt mounts. I can't find it now.....Like a mini pannier with no top.

could have sworn I tried it when I first got my bike, but I can't remember if I actually put my front packers on the front along with the cages. I'll be doing a lot of work next weekend on the bike and will try if I remember. Thanks for the heads up.

I picked up mine from my LBS and love the thing. I regularly carried a two liter bottle and if I could have found one, a three liter bottle would have fit fine. After a two month trip of 2577 miles it's holding up very well.

I'm also going to throw the Growler cage out as a possibility for carrying a small load. I've never used one, only seen it on the internet, but it might work.

I wonder if thats why in the Surly section some people have been adding Salsa forks.
What front rack are you using?
Could you please post a pic of the other side as well as another pic - one without the pannier bag but leaving the bottle on?

Thanks heaps for doing that.
It appears you've a mounting point on the inside of your forks for your pannier rack?
I'm away from home currently but will look at the first opportunity to see if the Ogre has similar.
It never occurred to me to check the inside of the forks for threaded holes.
I'll give you an update when I know more.

In my experience using a lowrider front rack on a Fargo fork reduces the type of off pavement terrain you can ride without the panniers hitting ruts, rocks and brush. Use of a high front rack in turn eliminates the use of the Anything Cages with panniers up front.
