2 Raleighs

Got two Raleigh Sprites. They both have Brooks saddles. Both bike are lightly used. Are they worth anything?
They were made in Nottingham, England.

...they are popular over in Davis as college transportation bikes. Less likely to attract thieves. Anything with OK tires that works well mechanically is worth $150+ over there, when school starts again in the Fall. Otherwise, these are a tough sell.

Shouldn't the title say Raleigh Sprites? These are not Schwinns.

Yes, my bad. They are Raleigh's. I grabbed them for the Brooks saddles.

At most these need rubber and grease. Both rideable. If nothing else I'll go over them this winter in the basement. It'll give me something to do.

I had a physics teacher in high school who claimed that he put uranium under the desks of all the stupid kids so that they couldn't reproduce. He said that the smart kids would no better than to bring children into this messed up world. Maybe this seat would do the same thing.

Sorry, I wasn't saying you personally were the type of person he'd put uranium under the seat, just thinking aloud about the effects of having a radioactive tail light.

Cool. Had we all been chatting in the P&R, I wouldn't have worried about you taking it the wrong way, but, here in normie-land, well, I just recently got my first ever warning flag, and didn't want to insult you and get another.

You'll get used to it after a while.

They both look to be in pretty decent shape considering they're over 50 years old.
What i see first is four really nice clean Raleigh pattern 'Westrick' style rims, something that's hard to come by lately.
The men's frame appears to be a 5 speed, S5 equipped bike, those are hard to find and very collectible.
The last of them I believe was made in the late 60's. The ladies model is of similar age but the derailleur shift models were less popular, but still nice bikes.
If they were here, I'd probably give each one a going over, fresh grease everywhere, polish up the paint and chrome a bit and list them individually. The men's model at $400, and the ladies model at $250.
As someone who likes old English three speeds and old Raleigh bikes, I'd be hard pressed not to take the rims from the ladies bike to improve one of my own bikes and sell the ladies model with a set of 'upgraded' more modern alloy rims on it. Raleigh pattern rims with good chrome on them are a scarce find these days here for some reason. Nearly every pair I've found in the past 10 years has the chrome either rusted off the whole rim or the sidewalls are worn down to bare steel.
