Rockshox on the talon 4
I have a talon 4 M 27.5, I bought a new fork, rockshox recon silver RL 100m, offset 42m
crown to race 486
it seems the new one could have 20 more mm due to more travel but I dont have the bike to measure, its only 6 extra but is it save?
would this work? if not any fork suggestions??

I would not put any money towards minor basic repairs to the bike to keep it functioning long enough to purchase the bike I want. A base level bike will typically have bottom end components on a very cheap frame. About the only upgrades I would do is for stuff I can transfer to a new bike like say a saddle or grips or pedals beyond that I would just keep things as much as is as possible.
Measure twice, cut once. Changing things a few MM doesn't seem like a lot but can effect the performance of the bike in some cases. It will change all the angles and positions of things and sometimes that is not a bad deal especially if getting more upright and maybe a bit more B.B. height but one should always measure things first, second and then for the third thing you go and buy after you are sure but again in this particular case I wouldn't spend the money.
If they are going to make a nice frame, they aren't going to put cheap parts on it and a cheap frame isn't going to have the provisions for modern standards generally so putting nicer parts is not going to really be worth it because in the end you cannot transfer those parts to the new bike and the parts that do work on the current bike aren't worth the upgrade.
