Fat Road Tyres
g'day all
bit of a newb here
only recently bought myself my first recumbent, a Greenspeed Magnun SD w/ elec assist (round tube model)
been wondering about the possibility of fitting fat tyres (road pattern), or at least just to the rear drive wheel
wondering if anyone has done similar, and your opinion/s on their use, pros, cons
also been considering a Enviolo N330 CVP to replace the derailleur, your thoughts on this too, if any
cheers

g'day VT
thanks for your two cents
I'm not looking to use existing rims
if I'm going from 2" tyres, certainly not gonna use the same rims on fats
I've already sussed out suitable rims to use, anyway, fat tyres use a different diameter rim to a typical 2" road tyre
also, the page you pointed me to must be quite dated as it has absolutely no information regarding suitable rims for fat tyres
typical 20 x 2" road tyre will use a rim of 451mm dia, whereas a 20 x 4" tyre will require a rim of 406mm dia due to the increase in wall height of the wider tyre
and, yes, the trike does have space in the rear to accomodate a 4" fat tyre
am not seeking technical knowledge per se, but people's experiences if they have fitted them to their trikes for road (paved surface) usage
cheers

What? You're saying you found some fat tires and rims for 451 wheels? 451 is a road racing size and I've never seen anything fatter than 37mm (Primo Comet) for that size. Not that I can imagine a good reason to opt for that weird combination...

I wrote "been wondering about the possibility of fitting fat tyres (road pattern)"
certainly doesn't state, or even imply, that I've found fat tyres to be used on 451 rims
it's just something I am considering and am seeking other's experiences
I'll definitely be using 406 rims for fat tyres!
cheers
