Kool-Stop Weinmann pad upgrade question
Hello All,
My R20 needs an upgraded brake pad and it looks like Kool-Stop makes the direct replacement for the metal Weinmann brake holder, sold in sets of 4. My question to pose is how are the old crusty hardened pads removed? Does anyone out there have some tips or tricks?

Pliers and a vise. These pads slide out the open end. Put the brake pads in a vise why the jaws the nut on the pad so you don't mess up the threads. Clamp the nut tight, The pad should be positioned so that you are pulling against the jaw of the vise. Clamp the brake pad with a pair a pliers and pull it out.
If you don't have a vise, you might even be able to do it by inserting a screwdriver in the closed end of the brake pad holder and prying it out to get it pad to start moving.
You could add some light lubrication like WD-40 (everyone has this stuff except for me) , Kroil, Automatic transmission fluid, PB Nutblaster, etc.
To install the new ones, clean the pad holders, keep them in the vise and push the new ones in . If you have a big enough vise, open the jaws enough to line up both the pad holder and the pad and by closing the jaws of the vise, push the pad into the holder.
Repeat for all four.
It is neat that Kool Stop makes these direct replacement brake pads.

I just replaced the pads in a few set of brakes. I clamped the rubber pad in the vice, which keeps them from bulging and binding on the shoe. Then I use a small block of wood placed against the shoe ( not the threaded post) and gently tap the wood block until the shoe slides off the rubber pad.
Installation is the reverse.
You may want to soak the old pads in hot water to loosen the dirt first.

Similarly to tjfastback66 I am looking for upgrade to Kool Stop Weinmann 6 Dot Brake Pads in the Salmon compound (Part Number KS-W6SA).

I just use the integrated one-piece KoolStop pads, which have a nice long profile for wet weather braking.
