The movies were interesting, but his third one I found especially depressing. If you are into art or philosophy, his first two movies are quite good and original.

In my 31 years of working for a large state government agency, it went from an OK place to work to a great place to work to a place that came close to killing me with stress and dysfunction. You know it's bad when you're in a closed door meeting with HR and they and my boss are saying that my talking about retiring is "creating a negative and insubordinate work environment". So I whipped out my resignation letter, signed it, and said, "My last day is March 10th." Seven years ago, but it took me a year to get my head on straight again. Riding helped. A lot.
So I started a one-man firm, lived off deferred comp, and waited for the work to roll in - which didn't, all that much. But it left time to ride & volunteer - and recover.
Then 4 years ago, I bid for and won a contract to manage a national professional nonprofit I'd been involved in for some time. "It's only part time work." "You'll have lots of flexibility." "These people like and appreciate you." And I can't complain about the money.
But so far in 2024, I'm averaging more than 10 hours a day working. Per calendar day, that is. And it's not showing any signs of letting up for the foreseeable future with many looming deadlines. And then I get wiseasses who say "Of course you have time to do ____ for me/us. You're retired. Every day is a Saturday for you!" I'm trying to refrain from violence...
And it's really cutting into my riding time, which is a precious commodity during the months when the Sun is not trying to actively murder us. So grumblygrumble. At least I'm healthy and not facing other graver problems (that I'm aware of).
Rant complete. I really should be working instead. Back to regularly scheduled C&V.

When I retired I wanted to be able to do what I want when I want with minimal scheduling.
Couple days a week Mrs. Doc will ask me what I’m up to today. My consistent answer of ‘Not sure yet’ always makes her smile.
Each person’s retirement road is different, as is one’s Preferred Retirement Lifestyle (PRL).
