Failed test ride, involving a box
I took my Koga-Miyata "bitsa" out for a test ride today, to see what it needed for the upcoming summer. As I rode by my favorite LBS, I thought I'd pick up a 9-speed chain, so I'd have a spare for this bike.
But they know me as "that guy", I didn't get away with just buying a spare part.
Apparently one of their customers had dropped of a box of old spare Campagnolo parts with an "if you know anyone for these ...". I took a quick glance at the contents of the box and did a quick calculation of what I thought was a fair price, money changed hands, and I borrowed a strap.
This was the result:
I had valued the box based on the parts I had seen and would be able to use. An NOS 27.2 seatpost was one of those:
NOS rear hub:
NOS headset:
Two sets of shifters:
A set of pedals that I know and like. These are great for casual touring:
A rear derailleur to match a Super Record front I already have in another box somewhere:
Two brake lever sets in good condition:

I'd seen toe clips in the box (always nice!), and they turned out to be interesting. This pair of aluminum Georges Sorel clips, for instance:
Two pairs of steel Campagnolo clips, one with the logo facing the other way. What's up with that?
And another NOS pair in aluminum. And a used one with the logo facing the other way:
A pair of used but very smooth pedals:
I like these pre-CPSC front derailleurs, as they work well with the classic Stronglight and T.A. cranks:
A brake set:
But it was when I got to the bottom of the box that the real goodies showed themselves:
I'll need to do the test ride another time, but it wasn't unhappy with today's results.

LUV the anodising on Sig. GPM, probably me fave CXLIV
is decaleur which mounts to the heads of the canti pivot bolts an off-the-shelf item or custom made?
fringe benefit of outing: box a nice size for Felix & Fritz to share; might be a bit tight for the Bulgarian...

I never knew this set even existed until a friend showed up with it at a swap meet last year. Bought it with the matching BB.
Off-the-shelf. A Nitto M12.
The Bulgarian doesn't even fit on his own pillow, let alone in a shoe box ...

What a score. The seat posts are my favorite and I do use the campy side pulls. All the rest is just amazing.

Keep and use, probably. I am sure most of it will end up on my current and future projects.

To be honest, the chain was really also an excuse to swing by the shop and say hello. I hadn't been there in a while, and they do tend to keep vintage stuff for me. Which I then feel obligated to accept.

Manager enters small bike shop from the rear door. He is immediately given the news:
Part-timer Andrew: "Klaus, 'that guy' was standing outside the shop, like 45 minutes before we opened. He just stood there."
Klaus: "Did he see you?"
Andrew: "I don't think so.., but he was holding a sign: "Give them up. I know you've got them".
Klaus: (sighs) "Oh, man. Did you tell him about the Nuovo Record and the VAR tools?"
Andrew, "No! I didn't tell him..."
Klaus, "Then how did he find out?"
Andrew: "You're asking me?!
(Just then, at 9:03am, the counter bell rings. A man with a "Him" t-shirt stands nervously, fraught with anticipation.., and the day's haggling begins)

...what non-fixie failed to mention is that he brings La Triumverata along with him to handle all the negotiations while he comes close to blacking out from fondling all of the goodies...
...those Bulgarians can drive hard bargains...

Looks like you might have overdosed on Campy. We are here if you need to detox, just let us know. It will take another 20 years for me to be 'that' guy.
I am currently 'that' guy, just one of a far more unsavory preference.

I also have that reputation, but the shop owners around here know what the stuff is worth and if I offered them that much I couldn't afford it. Instead they stick me with the PITA customers with old bikes and too much time on their hands.
That's a great haul.

Got a call again today, from my LBS friend. Another shipment had arrived. Apparently our previous deal had gone down well with the LBS' customer, and they had decided to do some further cleaning out of the attic. Would I be interested in some more stuff? Sure.
All very nice and useful stuff, but what I really, really love is the packaging of those toe straps.
I asked my LBS at what time I would be expected next week.

BTW, I noticed that Alfredo's name is written <first name><lastname>, while Cino Cinelli's and Dino Bianchi's names are spelled the other way around.
