Sadly not my size, but I do love the full Superbe group set. Is there any value on these guys beyond components?

That is a good bike but it has no special value other than as a rider so it makes financial sense to sell the parts and frame separately.

That’s a nice ride. Kind of Centurion Ironman-like with the fork and Tange 1 tubing. Doubt anyone is paying a premium for the Performance brand. I wouldn’t hesitate to thieve the Superbe group for another build. Then I’d throw an old 600 or Exage group on this bike and sell it for $200.

I have found Performance bikes to generally be really good value. They tend to be frames made out of good tubing, usually with quality parts and almost always at a discount from what a "name" bike would be. To answer you question, yes the group is probably worth as much or more than the bike as the Performance name is not well known and commands no premium. I have a really hard time taking apart perfectly good bikes for parts, but that is a personal problem. I like the suggestion above, since it is not your size take the Superbe group, but put the frame back on the road.

I enjoy riding mine as originally equipped. Everything I’ve seen, however, indicates it is worth more dead than alive.

It makes me sad but I parted it :'(. I'm a big fan of suntour and having a complete group set is worth a lot to me. I'm taking the frame to the local co-op, hopefully I'll see it around town someday.
I did a quick clean and dip in oxalic acid, very little wear and tear. Even the little pieces not Shown are branded Superbe

Someone in San Diego thinks that bike will be worth $500? Which I guess makes sense as Superbe Pro groups are $400-ish on ebay sold listings
Does look like a clean example - https://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/...645269923.html

Other than a bit off wear on the middle chain ring the group looks original and matching sin great shape I would say go for $500 international sale on the set . With a bit off effort should fit in a medium Flat rate medium USPS or Fed ex shipping box.

I agree with what you are saying but also believe the following to be true. You bought your bike like a smart bike person, who knew what they were looking for and how to source and ad parts. I am also not disagreeing that most people would not buy this "bike" for $500 but, the Ebay sold listings tell us the "market" values the Superbe Pro group at $400-ish so that leaves $100 for the frame, tires, bars and other bits, so I would say $500 is a reasonable "market" value, it just might be in pieces. What would I buy one for? well if you have seen my listing in the "are you looking for one of these?" it would be much more like the way you did

Yeah, sadly just like with cars the parts are worth more than the complete machine. Just because I sink a ton of money on making a bike correct doesn't mean that it is worth more than an already correct bike that is the same.
On the other hand to a lot of folks a complete group set is worth a premium not because you could sell the separate parts for even as much but because assembling it from separate parts is more expensive.

Performance Mtn bike for sale in LA has full Deore DX group, price is $70, group is worth much more than bike. If the frame was same quality but had a "name" it would be closer to $200. Parts are often worth more than the bike but even more so with the "house" brands. Novara (REI) is another that is often good bang for your buck.
