"Core" value of rusty Schwinn Stingray?

Brought this home from the scrap yard. I know these are desirable for collectors, but this one's paint is way to far gone. Any one got an idea of the value of this rusty barn find?

Let me disclaim I am far from a Stingray expert. No idea if the condition of this bike makes it worth $20 or $200.

The forks are what catch my eye. I only know Stingrays to have Ashtabula style forks. This fork is different. Maybe it’s earlier or later or girls frame only or off-brand. I’d want to know if it’s something unique that adds to, or detracts from, the value.

What does the chain guard decal say? Stingray or Fair Lady? Or something else?

I see folks on Rat Rod Bikes dot com bring similar patina'd bikes like this around with surprising results. Oxalic baths do wonders. It may not be too far gone. Looks to have a light bmx theme to it.

Pretty sure this is a 1970 or so Fair lady and not Stingray. In really rough shape as a basic model Schwinn girls bike will have no were near the value of a Stingray really nice examples of these only go for a $200 or so. This one as is in rough shape $75 or so to someone who wants to use it as a decoration lawn ornament, Not worth restoring and no real collectors value or bike value.

Same frame as I converted into my proto BMX in 1971.
that chainring started in 1969.

there is value, but tons of effort to extract.
and overwhelmingly folk are interested in the boys frames.

fork does look aftermarket- it might have value for one looking to recreate a bike of their youth.

rear fender might be a front repurposed.

Serial # is 935A .
I did some light web surfing, and I think the fork is stock. I talked "Schwinn" guy in Delaware, who powder coats and builds replicas a couple years ago, so I'll try and track him down.

I see banana seat bikes in this or worse condition frequently pop up on FB Marketplace around here usually listed as Stingrays for $600. I have a sick habit of clicking save on those posts and watching the prices fall. Since you don't have any investment other than the time it took to bring it home from the dump, anything you get will be profit. Someone may want it but it may take time for that person to find you.

Were it me, I would have left it at the dump. And I don't mean that to knock you, it just wouldn't be anything I'd be interested in. Have you asked for opinions over on thecabe site?

that is a curious serial number
not of the expected format at all and not enough digits.
where on the frame was it stamped?

There are a couple of these with the same forks online advertised as a 1982 Fair Lady. Pretty much sums up the value as <$0 for me.

As is? Pretty much what you paid for it. If you clean it up or put any energy in it you may be upside down. On the other hand , it would be cool to display somewhere or maybe make some kid happy to have a piece of rolling history.

‘surprised and not surprised that fork appears original. Probably stronger and lighter than the solid earlier version.

my proto BMX was a Slick Chick in pink to begin with. Bought used at the Schwinn shop for $25. Did the frame mods, paint, tires and fresh saddle and a few other details and the shop owners understood. This was 1973, they took a few photos for the Schwinn Rep.

It's a rudimentary Schwinn bike and, it looks complete with coaster brakes & fenders. These bikes are attractive to collectors if they have all the small parts necessary. I wouldn't take less than $100 for it. Good luck.
