Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What are some high end, less known brands?

Same or better quality than Specialized, BMC, Trek, Giant, Cervelo, etc but not as popular.

The Wiki list is missing a few names. They missed Aegis & Klein & a whole bunch of the smaller EU companies that make the TT machines.

In the US I would say Argon 18, Focus, Merida, Cyfac, BH, Blue, Kinesis, Time, and probably a lot more. I live in a huge bike city and have only seen one Argon 18, one Blue, and none of the others on the road even at the popular riding spots. Although now that PB sells Focus there will probably be a lot more out there soon enough. The Argon18 was one of their TT bikes too but it was pretty sexy.

They do time trials every other Tuesday in the outskirts where I live and it is pretty much a Cervelo fest. Had never seen so many P3/P4's in one place before. As far as road bikes go Trek, Specialized, and Felt rule the road around here.

I see argon18 all the time. Your location will have faves and local distributors.

Go to a smaller LBS and see what hangs on the wall.

There are two Argon18 dealers where I live and one doesn't even advertise they are a dealer while the other doesn't have any demo bikes.

yes, these are lesser known...but are they the same or better quality? there are many local builders that are not well know to the masses that builds great bikes. there are also certain manufacturers that built a great bike but for some reason has stop building them. here are a few: santa cruz roadster and eddy merckx scandium...I think this is still made: titus vuelo exogrid.
