Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The last two colds I had turned out to be covid. The intense sore throat is the marker.

You are really into jazz.

For whatever reason the above KCB video didn't pick up the trumpet audio very well.

So far, throat isn't really sore. Very slight, more like noticing it, when normally you don't notice your throat.

I woked hard all day yesterday and again this morning. My third cup of coffee is having no effect. Guess I’ll try napping.

Got in a good recovery ride. Gotta go visit the folks in NJ this afternoon.

If I had more time I could be atop the leaderboard but may have to settle for a podium spot and KOM.

This feels exactly like something I had maybe 6 months ago. I am NOT going to ride, obviously, but I have felt worse than this and ridden. Fingers crossed it stays about like this.

The Older Boy feels ill this AM, too, but it's too soon for it to be my COVID. He still took a test and called in sick - not sneezing on the meat is generally a good practice. It may well be that he got Mrs. GJ's non-COVID cold.

That'd be fun in a heavy crosswind, esp. since the wooden structure probably significantly raises the center of gravity!

Just got in from a bit under 3 hrs on the road. Again, my legs felt good but I'm hacking and coughing a bit. Time to take it easy next week, no hard efforts or big TSS, except maybe a long MTB ride on Saturday.

Got a little bit of everything:

Saturday AM - TT bike on the trainer
Saturday PM - bonus 45 min MTB ride from the front door - too nice outside not to
Sunday AM - 3 hr road ride

All scaled back a little bit due to my illness. Time to take easy, unload and let my body recover.

2 nice club rides to pick from this morning but I was not up for it. More tired than I thought I would be this morning. Instead, I rode the mtb around for a couple hours.
I rarely see riders around here but today I was on the street going toward a dirt area and I saw a guy leaving his house. I slowed to see if he would come up and chat and when he got close, he said "hi" but turned to go up a long climb. Not today, sorry.

Later I was in the dirt near a road and 4 guys went by at speed on the road. Thought about chasing them down to ask if they ride around here often but from where I was it would have taken an effort to get there. And who knows, maybe they wouldn't want an old geezer on their rides.
