I have bikes that I like the looks of, but I don't think I've ever looked at them with loving eye's. Nor do I gaze at them for any length of time other than to ride, clean or do work on them.

1. Bike pictured does everything I want it to do, and is a great platform for 'upgrading' -- which I like to do. I find it fun.
2. I just don't have the 'collector' mentality. Nothing wrong with that impulse; I just don't have it. I'd rather have one 'great' bike (for me) that does everything I need it to do.

As an artist, I spent as much time speccing my bike for looks as well as performance. Every single component was chosen for its aesthetics as well as its function, from the toe straps to the water bottle cages to the bar end plugs.

The bike I liked most from an optical perspective was my previous 1980s Dutch Gazelle bike. I am just a sucker for these dutch bikes. But due to back problems I mainly ride recumbents nowadays and sold that bike about two years ago.

There's a story behind this one. This bike belongs to the owner of a LBS. The shop was broken into, and this bike (along with a new Pinarello) was stolen. About a week later, it was recovered, completely intact and un-molested, by the owner of another LBS. The guy who had the bike took the front wheel into the shop to have the tire fixed because it was flat. The wheel was immediately recognized, and the shop owner was able to talk the guy into giving up the whole bike (I'm not sure if the guy was arrested later).
