So, like OK. You like the Black Keys, too.
Very nice and interesting playlist. Definitely won't let you nod off.
However, I did almost suffer musical whiplash at "Tighten Up"
Saw them play in 1970 at the National Guard Armory in Augusta, GA.
Mr. Brown and I had a conversation while standing in line for fried chicken at the Wife-Saver in that town.
Otis Redding died way too young.
I'm kinda surprised I don't see any Neil Young, The National or Nine Inch Nails...

+ a bazillion! That entire album was fantastic, but that song is chock full of goose bumps.
I like showing off my eclecticism with a list like that, yet it wasn't that eclectic, it was mostly guitar based music with a bluesy emphasis. I like that I can go from Hank Williams to Motorhead to Prince in one list. Zappa was another year, as was The String Cheese Incident.

OK. Here's my theory/prognosis. A few years ago, I was in the lobby of the assisted living facility wherein my mother-in-law resided. The background music was Big Band. It is my theory that our "background music" when we are living in such places will be the Beatles, AC/DC, Stones, etc., because that's what we grew up with. My wife thinks I'm crazy (insert your own joke here).
Recently, I was walking into our fitness center, here at our 55+ enclave. In the parking lot, I saw a person with a walker and one pulling an oxygen bottle. I was a bit depressed. BUT, once inside, they were playing "Light My Fire" (the long version) over the system. I felt better.
I have aboaut 9700 songs on my iPod. Over half are blues, but there is everything from Big Band, pre-rock 50s pop, classic rock, disco, etc. I download new stuff (for free) from Amazon and iTunes everyweek.

My father hated "soul" music, R&B whatever. He was a WW2 guy liked the Big Bands, Tommy Dorsey.
Later we found common ground with Willie Nelson...
I personally dislike most "rap" or "hip hop" especially "gangsta rap" mainly because it's musically pretty backwards and lame. The message sometimes is also a little too morally brutal for my, dare I say, sensitive ears.
My 17 year old son seems to enjoy it. He knows it bugs the living **** out of his old man.
Kind of like my old man wondering what was all that caterwauling that was Led Zeppelin...

My last ITunes down-loads (I wish I were kidding but I'm not):
-Free fallin' by Tom Petty etc.
-Gitana by Shakira
-MMMBop by Hanson
-Bed intruder song by Antoine Dodson
-The lost get found by Britt Nicole
-Something for everybody by DEVO
-CS&N BY CS&N.
Pitiful. It's pitiful. I'll be on Haldol and Aricept in no time. IIRC, I might be on them already. I don't remember.
Anyone here like Karen Carpenter?

I like Karen Carpenter jokes.
What me to post a few? They're not particularly PC...

A: Nothing!
That is just wrong ;-)
If Karen Carpenter had eaten Mama Cass' sandwich they'd both be alive! How many people under 50 would even get that one?

The music of anyone's youth is what you groove to. It's like the sense of smell. I have noticed this.
My father hated "soul" music, R&B whatever. He was a WW2 guy liked the Big Bands, Tommy Dorsey.
Later we found common ground with Willie Nelson...

My mother was a Dean Martin/Mario Lanza kind of listener -- so it surprised me to no end when she professed a liking for Rod Stewart's "Maggie May", though she denied it years later.
cccorlew and ciocc are right there with me, but... don't limit yourselves, guys. The Scorpions started touring in '65, and some of the 80's hair bands could rock with the best of 'em.
Heck, I even have Halestorm and Evanescence on my mp3!
It's harder every year to find the good stuff -- but some still seeps through.

It's limited. Every Tuesday they have ONE free song and ONE free music video. They are on the music home page. Just scroll down until us see the yellow banner. Amazon has a Free Download newsletter that also comes out on Tuesday. Sometimes as many as 50 free songs, often "samplers" from some indie label. You can also search "free downloads" at Amazon.com.

My Mom and Dad literally hated rock music when I was growing up. I could only play it when they were'nt in listening range. Now I hear all my favorite songs playing in the grocery store and elevators. What the hell happened?

Don't listen to music while on the road. I'd rather hear what is going on around me.
On the trainer it's usually electronica, either older Tangerine Dream, Mother Mallard, and Fripp/Eno or newer Aphex Twin, Lustmord, Thievery Corporation type stuff

I know Tangerine Dream and have a lot of Fripp, Eno, Fripp/Eno, Roxy Music, King Crimson...I'll have to check out the others you listed. I'm a musical magpie, I collect songs and bands from anywhere.
