Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wet and windy here too. I plan to head out on the CX bike to explore a new (not officially opened yet but allegedly finished) section of a trail that connects one MUP in my neighborhood to the main trail networks in Philadelphia. My hope is the MUP cops don’t bust me and confiscate the Ridley.

I didn't start racing until 1984. I have done a lot of races in Champaign, though.

I was still drinking and cigarette smoking in 1971 which is also the year that I get married.

And she still took you? Slim pickings in IL. lol.

My coaches first race was in Champaign 71. He gave me a detailed history during our ride yesterday. I asked if he knew you but didn’t recall. You were sleeping in that day.

Did he keep involved in cycling in Champaign? I knew a lot of people in cycling from there. I also have relatives in Champaign.

For a couple of years, I think he was back on the east coast by 1980. Crazy stories of doing a race in Champaign, driving all night to St. louis doing another race. Nuts I tell ya.

I attempted to purchase one pair of socks. I could not convince PayPal to have my billing address different from the shipping address, so the shipping and billing are the same, and wildly incorrect for the billing. It will be interesting to see if it goes through. Ordered from Mexico. Billed to an incorrect address and shipped to same. Sounds legit.
Edit: It has indeed gone through

When I was racing Cat 2, I often raced in two locations 7-8 hours apart. A weekend that I did numerous times was race Master in the early morning and Pro 1-2 in the afternoon in Indianapolis and then drive back to Peoria, unload and repack, get up early the next morning and head to Des Moines to do it again. That's over a 7 hour spread without stops and probably a time change. Up at 5 AM on Monday for work.

Same with races in Chicago and St. Louis on the same weekend. Fairly common.

Edit to add, probably 80% of these were criteriums. I’m a fast twitcher and even though I was very lightweight and small, I couldn’t climb for crap so stayed away from road racing where the “tractor” type people excel.

Well I went and watched a race after I worked a red eye, so there.

My wife hired a photographer for family pictures. She scheduled it for today, and so think she scheduled it right after Simon was born. T
2 days ago we picked out what we were going to wear as a family.

This morning. ITS ALL WRONG. I am not sure what changed in the last two days, but what ever changed, changed for the worst. Did I mention it’s all my fault? It’s all my fault.

Now I am at the outlet mall trying to get my wife and daughter new clothes to wear for our pictures today, because somehow it’s my fault the clothes they were going to wear don’t work. Sigh.

What, you're going to eliminate the 0.0156% that contains Deuterium?

Spouse is officiating a friend's wedding this August in Sequim, WA. We're planning on turning it in to about a week long trip and am trying to figure out what to do. Neither of us have ever been to the PNW before - any recommendations for places to check out? Or places to avoid?

Of course the biggest decision to be made is whether to bring my own bike or try and find one to rent.
