Piecemealing the Great Allegheny Passage Trail
Back in 2021, I did a 2 day ride of the GAP. This year I had three different opportunities to be out that way with my wife and did a total of 147 miles on the GAP, though there was some duplication - never did 31 of the 35 miles from West Newton to Pittsburgh.

great stuff joe - but minus the part about Hodgkins Lymphoma ...
recently did a section of the GAP - and met two great guys who are long time GAP riders - including the author of the GAP Companion
and just received the book as a gift - highly recommended !

I have that book and love it! I kinda hate stopping while riding, so instead of reading all the info signs along the GAP I read the more detail info in Metzger's book!

That sounds like an amazing experience! Cycling the GAP must have been a great adventure, and it's wonderful that you had multiple opportunities to explore it with your wife. Those 147 miles must have offered some incredible views and memories. If you ever get the chance to complete that remaining stretch, it could be a great excuse for another memorable ride. I’ve done it from Pittsburgh to Cumberland twice as part of cross-PA tours. Also did an up and back from Cumberland to have dinner with an old friend who lives just outside of Pittsburgh.
A lot of people don’t know it, but you can take a short side trip near Witsett, PA to see Buffalo Bill’s house from The Silence of the Lambs. It was transformed into a rental. The website sells Skin Suit So Soft body lotion.
Sadly, Husky Haven Campground in Rockwood closed last fall. Owners retired. Hope someone takes it over.
