Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

5 of us for Tuesday cruising. Some quiet back roads and some busier stuff. Several miles of bike path, too.
We went into a quiet section with water crossings at both ends but the way out was a lot deeper. May as well finish off the bb bearings again.
Regroup.

Some big rollers on this road.

Later, up this beautiful canyon. Very quiet up here because it doesn't go through.

Sometimes we go up past this dirt section but not today.

Heading to bagels.

Getting close to bagels and coffee.

No bagel pics but climbing another hill after snacks.

Here, they stopped to check out some yard art.

Back on the bike path for several miles to the end of the ride.

Don’t know what ‘NBD’ is or what odd spoke you speak of.

The spoke pattern is a Campy thing called G3. You can goggle it for more info.

Mom signed me up. That pool was unheated, and it always felt cold to me. I would do what she asked, then hop out and huddle under my towel to warm up. Mind you, I was a skinny kid, no insulation.
Weren’t we all skinny in those days?

nbd equals new bike day. One of the spokes in the group of three below the valve appears to be silver. Silver nipple too. The rest appear to be black
My country isn’t listed on the Campy site so I can’t browse the catalog. I was unable to find it elsewhere either. My loss

I think they want us to stay near the curb and the other section is a buffer zone. Very little car traffic on this part of road because there is a gate at the top of the hill but bikes can get through. If the gates weren't there they could make another traffic lane, which might be what was originally intended.

The wheels are on my Colnago, not new. The wheels have never been touched so I assume the different color nipple is a trick of the lighting. G3 spoke lacing is a pattern that Campy has used since the 2000s that I know of.

G3 refers to groups of three parallel straight-pull spokes, which are arranged in a 2:1 ratio, so one side of the wheel has twice as many spokes as the other.”

It’s a Campy thing. Just goggle “G3 spoke lacing.”

This particular route is never far from the city. Not L.A. but a suburb 2 valleys away from there. We love being able to find these roads with light traffic but building is still happening. There is a project of 20,000 more houses going on near the west end of our route.

The water shortage stopped development for a while but after years of fighting in court approvals were given. They planned to pump ground water which is needed by communities downstream but those people lost the battle. Part of the deal is the new units will not have lawns and only drought resistant plants. We rode through one part and it looks like a jail to me. No green anywhere.

There's a lane not for cars?

Madness!

There's always rare steak!

And collards, steak and collards and you'll be all ironed up, like Iron Man.

Took a long wandering ride on the hard-nose soft-tail today. Super stiff fork and 30mm squish in back is so sweet. Think I might pull these Danny Hart bars off and put the Soma Dream bars on. This thing needs more back sweep and a little extra ride would be nice too.
