10 y/o Veloflex or any old tire safe?
I recently picked up a pair of what I presume are 1st generation Neutrons. They came with a pair of Veloflex tires mounted which I presume could be upwards of ten years old. They appear not dry rotted. So the question is whether the Veloflex or any manufacturer's tire maintains integrity hanging in a garage or basement. Would you ride them with confidence or not take a chance on them?

I'm currently riding on a couple of sets of 10 year old tires. They've been sitting in a box in my mini barn in Indianapolis. Hot sweltering summers and frigid cold winters. No biggie.

Depends on the distance and terrain. I've had classic bikes with original tires (35yrs old) that held pressure and gave me no probs on short, casual rides. Other than that, no century rides or Strava KOMs stuff.

When I got back into cycling earlier this year I faced the same issue. My old touring bike had 12 year old Panaracer tires on it that still looked good and would hold at least 100 psi. But in the end I decided to err on the side of being safe and bought a new pair of tires for peace of mind. My guess is the old tire would probably have been fine but I'm not as young as used to be and didn't want to risk going down for a few dollars spent on tires. Also, my garage routinely gets up in excess of 110℉ in the afternoon for 3-4 months during the summers which I figure isn't the best thing for long term tire storage.
