Sunday's sunny ride - pics

We've had lots of cool rainy weather in the Montreal area lately, so I was delighted when the sun appeared at noon today and the temperature was hovering around 10C. Below 10 and my motivation to ride drops off exponentially. I jumped into my cycling clothes, pumped up the tires and headed out on my local 42 km loop. As an added bonus, the very strong wind was against me on the way out which means a wonderful boost on the back end of loop heading home.

Everyone was taking advantage of the day.

The midday sun is getting lower in the sky every day.

This route is very popular with cyclists and drivers tend to be careful simply because cyclists are a familiar sight and the route is well know to be popular with cyclists.

Ahhh...new pavement. Previously, the combination of autumn sun filtering through the trees, cracked pavement, and dark glasses made for some really uncomfortable surprises. Now, this part is a real joy to ride.

Before the shoulder was paved last year, this section was a complete bone-shaking disaster. The edge of the road was so dangerous that a cyclist would be forced to ride well out in the lane, often with no option of moving over to avoid cars. Luckily traffic is usually very light on this road. The new shoulder makes this section much faster and more relaxing.
(Lots of wind noise - you might want to turn down your sound before watching.)

Stocking up on grain before heading south.

The road sweeps through the Macdonald campus of McGill University. These fields are part of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Science.

If it's O.K. with you...they can stay up there this year. I'm getting tired of watching where I walk all the time!
