Good News for Torontonians ... Rob Ford declared Mayor
No more fighting those nasty cyclists in those pesky bike lanes. Feel free to crack out your Hummers and Grand Cherokees ... the bigger the better

Glad I don't have to live in TO... from Mel Lastman and his crazy appliance sales and jokes about cannabalism during Toronto's bid for the 2008 Olympics to a Mikey Harris wannabe.... Well. at least Ford will have fun dealing with a (hopefully) recalcitrant council as he plays an escapee from Orwell's Animal Farm.
I was suprised to discover he is the same age as I am... hell, he looks old enough to be my dad.

Not safe for work
That man is a moron. No wait, that's not nice to morons. They have feelings too.
I am dreading the next 4 years.
Oh, and don't say "Mel Lastman" out loud. He'll crawl out of his cheap furniture lined crypt and start talking manure again. Shhhhhh!

I guess there's no nice way to say this, but you people should wait and see the man's results before you judge. The last few mayors Toronto's had have been dumbasses, to say the least, and here comes a guy who has had a real job in the past, :gasp:, and actually made money and created jobs in the region, :double gasp:, and the most you can complain about is his weight? Or his supposed inability to be a good mayor? On what grounds? How dare you people judge a man based on his appearance?

Toronto has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

the City will invite competitive tenders from private companies as well as current unions to provide collection services that are reliable, affordable and represent the best value for Toronto taxpayers.

My problem with Ford is the same problem I have with anyone who announces their are going to do this or that and run roughshod over others generally shoot their mouths off and take great pride in demonstrating their appalling ignorance. We had people like that running Ontario in the 90s and look where it got us.
time will tell, but it looks like the streak will stay intact!

I will still have to get on the road at some point unless my office is right beside the DVP ravine...
Maybe Rob Ford can score me some oxycontin for this blazing headache like he offered for that other guy.

Ok, I read it thanks for wasting my time. I said commuting cyclists - not cyclists who are out on the weekend to ride through parks and trails.

You do realize that the "existing bike routes" that Rob drew in green marker on that map mostly don't exist, right?
The "proposed routes" that Rob drew also make almost no sense. Rob basically drew dotted green lines in all the hydro fields... most of which cross a major arterial road (with no intersection or crosswalk present) every 200-400 yards.
Rob has said repeatedly that bicycles are not a valid use of public roadways, and now I expect Rob to try to ingrain this into municipal regulations and infrastructure.
I also expect him to fail.
