Me too! I just scored a 1975 catalog with that bike shown in it. A year later than my bike but I'm not holding my breath trying to find the earlier catalog. And it has the Silver Lilac Le Champion it in too, so it's a nice keepsake.
Fantastic job on that paint, Brent.

Here's an example.
Buy a Merckx TSX Century nos frameset for $300.
Sell the same frameset three years later for $900+.
Not inflated value, just straight $$$.
That's all I'm giving out.
Let's just say I don't lose money on transactions.
People that know me may recall how frugal I can be.
Learned it from my conservative Swiss FIL.

Wow, that is pretty amazing. For frames and complete bikes I've overpaid only a couple of times, and underpaid by a lot more often. For components I generally pay close to market value. With that being said, if it ever came time to sell everything I would be very surprised if I were to break even.
Two left to sell this summer.
One more left the stable yesterday to a forum member on another board.
I will say, it is much more difficult to sell at full margin in this current market.
Glad I am almost out.
More time to ride.

I don't remember exactly, but after shipping I think I spent about $500 on my Drysdale. It was a complete bike, but the only original parts were the frame and fork, in dreadful repaint. Fortunately it also came with the original 1954 receipt, so I knew what color to paint it and had a pretty good idea of what components to put on it.

$125 for a 1989 specialized stumpjumper comp; $175 for a 1983 Trek 600; and $200 for a 1979 Davidson custom racing bike with a campy SR gruppo and 2 sets of wheels. I'd gladly pay a heck of a lot more for a touring bike in my size, :

The most I have ever spent on a classic bike was for my Moulton Mk1... I only swapped the flat bars and the crank that it came with.
It cost me 400 times as much as I paid for my car.

I I've been tempted many many times to pay ridiculous sums for a bike thinking that, this bike, in this size, in this condition will never come around again. I've been at this long enough to know that it always does and at a fraction of what I might've paid in the heat of the moment. Or, something far better came along that I wouldn't have had the discretionary funds for otherwise.

Lot of cheapskates....errr, I mean, bargain hunters around here.
Most I paid for a vintage bike was $240 for My Ron Kit/Speedwell, but it's turning into a money pit as it's now out for repair and I've added a few replacement parts along the way. I paid ~$500-$600 for my first real road bike (a Vitus) in 1985, but that was for a brand new frame at the time and all new high-end parts purchased individually over time.
Here's what I paid for my current keeper fleet:
'70 Cilo Pacer: $160
'73 Ron Kit/Speedwell: $240
'74 Nishiki Competition: $80
'74 Peugeot UE-8: $67, prior to several upgrades
'86 Look: free (insurance money for Vitus after hit by car)
'89 Park Pre: free
'90 Park Pre MTB: free

Most I paid (by a wide margin) was $400 for my '78 Raleigh team Pro. It needed a seat and post, and consumables:

$200 - for my '75 Fuji S-10S -- but it was new at the time, LOL! For a used C&V, it would be the $140 for the '84 Univega Viva Sport earlier this year. $85 for the Trek 1100 from a garage sale, and $75 for the Craigslist Nishiki. $35 for the Sears Free Spirit 3-speed. The Schwinn Woodlands was a garbage-picked bike so it was free.
