New from TEXAS
Picked up my Trek 7.3 FX just 4 days ago, but loving it! Logged 28 miles so far, and starting to get my biking legs.... I am starting out with 5 miles after work (weather permitting) and hope to increase that over time.....
I'm 55 years old, and the wife and I have been working out in a gym quite a while. But over time it really gets boring being on a machine and not going anywhere. So I took the plunge and got a bike. She is getting excited about it now, and looking for one (Perhaps a Trek or Electra)..... We hope to do weekend trips in North Texas and do bike trails. Anyway, really enjoying it so far....

Howdy and welcome to the forums.
Where are you located at?
Here in the Dallas area, the trail around White Rock Lake is probably the most popular biking spot around- it's a 10 mile loop, fairly level, around the lake, plus some branch trails you can do to make it all longer.

Thanks Stephen.... Located in Granbury, which is about 30 south of Fort Worth. And yes, White Rock lake is on my list of trails I want to ride. Sounds like it could be a nice Sunday afternoon kind of ride..... thanks again for the welcome

You gonna eat that?
Greetings from southwest Fort Worth. Maybe I'll do a ride down to your area this summer. You'll be doing more than 5 miles at a time before you know it!

When you get a chance sometime, check out the Trinity Trail system in Fort Worth- a little closer to home.

Yes to the Trinity Trails..... good chance that will be the first long trail we ride. We do have a couple of mile trail here in Granbury, it's not much, but at least it's here..
Also the wife is now interested in a Kona Dew, seems like a pretty got bike at a low price point.....

Here's a map of the Trinity Trail System. A great ride for you would be to park at Trailhead 7 in Benbrook (TH7 on the map) and ride all the way to downtown. Or just go as far as Trinity Park. At the north end of the park you're very near Montgomery Plaza (the old Monkey Ward's building) which has a lot of places to eat.
The southwest branch of the Trinity Trail from Benbrook to downtown is the most traveled, most interesting stretch of the trail in my opinion.
Also, if you get as far as downtown, you're only about another 10 minutes or so from the Stockyards; they're not that far from downtown.

Wow, thanks for the map! That is perfect and the Montgomery Plaza trip sounds great. We pick up my wife's Kona this coming Saturday, so perhaps the weekend after.........
