Newbie member- Looking for assistance on indentifying Bianchi road bike

Hello everyone. Thanks for taking the time to read. I recently purchased a 2nd hand Bianchi road bike for $40 on OfferUp. It has very few identifying characteristics apart from the “Celeste” paint and some “B” stamps on the frame and forks. The decals were removed and I don’t see a serial number on the bottom of the bracket. Would there be one in a different location? I’m not a totally avid bike rider or anything, but I ride to and from the gym and like the look and feel of older bikes (plus I don’t need anything too advanced) I would like to give it a bit of a restoration and am trying to identify it in order to give it a “stock” appearance.

I know this isn’t much to go on, but any assistance or direction would be appreciated.

it appears to be early 80’s according to the kid that did a quick tune up on it at a local bike shop

Welcome. Pictures are needed. The site says you can't post pictures until you have 10 posts, but if you upload pictures they will go to a personal album that is visible to others, and then some kind soul will likely import them to this thread.

Looks to be one of the Italian-made models from the early eighties or very late 70's.
Brake calipers, bars and stem appear to perhaps be original Italian parts, but the brake levers and drivetrain look like newer 1986-7 Shimano 105 SIS parts.

Looks to be of higher quality than my Rekord 748 model, more like my Nuovo Racing model but with different calipers.
Also looks to have eyelets for fender struts and a steel headset, so not a top model.

I don't know much about Bianchis, but that's a very nice bike for $40.

Here are a couple more detail pics. More at the "recent' gallery.

definitely from the Piaggio period

as mentioned above many of the fittings are later than the frameset

frameset will be a minimum of three-tube Columbus DB and may possibly be eleven tube

you can check the steerer interior for the presence of helical ridges which indicate a Columbus tube

would have likely come fitted with OFMEGA components for chainset, hubs

original saddle pillar is likely to have been Selle San Marco

Thanks Juvela!

I’ll look into the details you described and shop around online for some of the parts you mentioned.

It looks pretty comparable to my 1982 Campione d'Italia, which, though not a high-end Bianchi, is a real sweetheart of a ride.

I think your 2.Lxxxx serial number indicates a late very 1982 build, so perhaps it is a 1983 model. (Mine is evidently a 1982 model, though made in late 1981.)

Interestingly, my Bianchi lacks eyelets on any of the dropouts, not a problem since it is my "fun" bike, and I have others that happily serve more practical needs, such as commuting and shopping.

Original equipment matched 1982 Campione d'Italia specs. Frame date is late 1981. "Charcoal" color not found in catalog listing.

Could it be a late 70s (77/78) Sprint? The long stay caps make it look 70s?

I was thinking it might be a Rekord, but the eyelets are not on either of the Rekords are they?

i think you’re right about the 2.L #

after a few google searches on 83 Models, I found that a handful have that same engraving. Maybe it’s coincidence but, seems logical, given your input

I have seen a 1983 catalogue for Bianchi road bicycles. Based on the rear dropout I think the model might be a Nuovo Racing.
