Close Call for the Roo...

At one time, in fact more than at one time, I had in excess of 180 vintage road bicycles. Needless to say, from time to time, I had to cull the herd...

These days, only three bikes make up my humble collection...

Torpado...

Legnano...

And my recently finished Marinoni (test ride planned for later today)...

That said, in an effort to reduce the number of bikes that still occupy my man cave (with real rocks, dirt, spiders and four footed creatures) I felt the need to make some choices. What to keep. What to sell (pain to sell these days - shipping costs are nuts)...

This ugly thing goes for sure...

And, I came really really close to pitching this Quintanna Roo into the dump the other day...

But at the last moment, the Roo got a reprieve. Back into my man cave and it is now my next planned project. I intend a full restoration - paint, art and a full refurbishment with original components (still have all the original stuff including the 650c wheel set)...

I think you need another Roo to keep it company...

Another Roo? When I first got this one I thought that it was way too big for me. Those smaller wheels and frame design fooled me. Though I am not the guy to extract top level performance from my QR, is always has felt like the fastest bike I have ever owned...

And, as mentioned, I have everything for the bike except consumables. And the everything is in pretty darn nice shape. Due to my (several year) lack of interest, I did not do justice to taking pictures of the bike. Other components also bear the Quintanno Roo name...

It does, however, need some attention...

Yeah, it is VERY deceptive in sizing it. I’ll try once again to find a good home for it.

The thing is a bike like my Roo is for a specific kind of riding - competition. That said, even with my Shimano eight speed brifter transmission, my Roo is no longer competitive. But, like yours, it is an interesting machine. Unfortunately, after years of trying, I cannot find anyone who wants to restore the bike. So, because I have only one other possible project, a late sixties Carlton, the Roo was picked to help me get rid of some more money...

That said, your Roo looks to be in great shape, compared to the one that I have (did I mention I gave mine away twice and bought it back two times?). To be honest, I kinda like yellow bikes. Hard to believe that I gave this one to my son-in-law a couple of weeks ago...

Did most of your bikes sell locally?
If yes, you must have created quite the vintage bike riding scene in Ontario area?
I have seen a few roo's in the wild and now wonder how the ride compares to the vintage Italian columbus frames.
Good to see this save and hope some buyer gets lucky sooner than later.

The Roo and any other TT bike from the mid-90's onward is enough for 98% of riders. The most important thing for a time trial is aerodynamics, and the strong majority of that is rider position, tight-fitting clothing, and the helmet. A fully-modern TT bike is only the last 2-5% of aero.

That broken paint line striking through the top tube name? I would remove paint there first to understand what is going on.

Not really. The vintage road bicycle market, in Thunder Bay, is, pretty much me. I have helped people on every continent, except Antartica, get vintage bicycles. The Roo ride quality is not really harsh but not a forgiving as my steel lugged frames. The Roo was not as harsh as a Cannondale 400 that I rode for a summer or two. But, the bike did feel fast, The bike was the lightest one ever to come my way.

As for those cosmetic issues, I plan a full paint strip, followed by any necessary body work, and then paint/art focus. Where I can find art is beyond me, right now. However, I have created my own art now and again...

That is very cool you have shipped bikes all over the world.
I do have one bike that is Dedaccia 7003 heat treated aluminum with nice bits and it rides on a par with my other Columbus steel Italian bikes of the same era. Purchased for the Campy parts but could not diss-assemble after riding it.
