South Bend to Angola/Fremont

Phenomenal ride today. 87 miles of smiles.

Used Google Maps again to ride country roads instead of riding Hwy 20.

Took several bike paths again. Nice path along the river leaving South Bend. More paths later in the ride from Goshen to Middlebury and beyond. A lot of 60+ riders on the path beyond Middlebury. I stopped and talked to several of them.

Definitely a substantial Amish presence in the area. Probably 30 miles of today's route. One 11-13 year old fella had aero bars on his bike. Good for him!!! Most others were riding cruisers.

I did run into Google Maps wanting to put me on gravel roads which meant hunting for paved roads. Probably added a few miles on today's route.

I envy your adventure. Ideal weather? any wind?

Ideal temps and clear skies!!! Some wind but after the gales in Nebraska normal winds just don't seem that bad.

AWESOME!!!

I'm stuck here in the office for the next 8-10 years before I can attempt a ride similar to yours...

Keep posting so I can continue to ride vicariously through you!!

Great!! I just came across the Pumpkinvine trail two days ago. Hope to be in Shipshewana next month and would like to take that trail. Wife will be at a quilting retreat in Shipshwana and I would like to get some riding in (non gravel) if the weather is good.

You're making excellent time. When you started in Oregon I thought you'd get to Boston just before Christmas.

Looks like the cross country cycling trip will start this Sunday!

Riding solo. Essentially going to follow Hwy 20 across the US to Boston. If anyone would like to ride any segments with me let me know. What I've laid out calls for about 47 daysof riding plus 8 days off the bike. There are some 60 mile days and some 100+mile days.

My wife is driving our van so it's a supported ride. I was in great riding shape the end of June but haven't ridden that much since...I have plenty of base miles this year so I hope that's a realistic assumption and I'm not being too optimistic. Not any other choices at this point.

Somewhat concerned about weather in the NE in October but we'll see…

I may well be able to take a week day off work to show you around if you and your wife would like, but I'll defer until I hear of your progress…
