Did my first century! Solo!
Actually, I did twice my age--54*2=108. I know that when training to do a century, one doesn't necessarily have to do 100 miles prior to the ride, but I wanted to make the milestone and have the experience. Also, I know I completed one so it's a confidence booster as well. Did it in not the greatest time or speed, but I don't think it's bad considering it's my first and I was also fighting some wind to boot. 108 miles in 6hrs, 52½ min travel time and with stops, bathroom, eating, 7 hrs, 45 min(got caught in a conversation at the LBS--a bathroom and water stop at the 100 mile mark). If I hadn't gotten caught in a conversation or wasted time looking for a different set of gloves, the time would've been closer to 7½ hours.

Congrats! I didn't do a solo century until I'd done about a dozen organized centuries. I wasn't that brave back then.

I even briefly, really briefly, thought about pushing on and doing a double metric. ...or did you mean 200 miles?
The TDC:Hampton Roads one will be a bigger challenge as there's more climbing, and more steeper climbing, than I'm used to...it will be a challenge. I haven't driven the Cap2Cap route yet...didn't want to confuse the two routes--the TDC route is complicated enough.
Thanks...I'm pleased that I did it. The LBS guy thinks I'm over training.

Nice! Cap2Cap will be a breeze for you. I did it the year before last, and got lost along with tons of other people coming back to Richmond. The cue sheets were pretty messed up, and the markings were confusing. I heard they got a lot of "feedback" on this and have improved things.
My first century was a solo also, but it was all on a bike path so it was pretty hard to get lost

well done I should be following soon, problem is finding a route that doesnt involve A-Roads and long enough . I have done 86miles in the past no stops and no water for return journey and no money with me

I am positive you are going to be well prepared for both of the rides with your mileage base you have built. I use your determination and dedication as an inspiration in keeping at my riding and getting over my CRF problems. Thank you for the reports and the encouragement you have shown to me. Congrats. My first, in 2011, was a solo because I was afeard I'd never make it through an organized one and have to come back in a car or worse an ambulance.

It's a powerful addiction though, I must warn you. I rode my first century back in '78; countless more since.
Rode my first double-century in '83, sixty something more since.
Looking on the bright side, as stapfam noted, centuries are good training for double centuries!

Congratulations, Bikey Mikey. That's an accomplishment to be proud of. Now . . . continue to ride double your age in miles within a few weeks of every birthday you have from now on out. For me, this August I'll be doing 124 miles/200km.
I rode my first double-century in 1969 as part of the San Diego bi-centennial. That was one tough ride! Double-metric centuries are easily accomplished, not double imperial centuries. Not sure if I'd have the courage to tackle another one of those.

I guess I need to do one of these before it's too late, but I REALLY prefer multi-day rides of 50-75 miles a day. Am I totally going to regret not having done a century in my lifetime someday?
