how many different downtube shifter mount?
Hi
Theres a big pile of bikes that the building management planning to toss away.
In this pile, I saw a steel roadbike frame with downtube shifter.
I assume the bike is low-end, due to the brand: Solar. The perfect beater inner-city bike build! It is attached with a drop handlebar with suicide levers.
The shifters look rusted and stuck.
what is the proper replacement shifter?

Low-end bikes typically have clamp-on shifters rather than brazed on mounts. If that's the case, replacement shifters must have a clamp suitable for the downtube diameter.
If it does have brazed on mounts, there are several types. The square-base "Campagnolo" type is probably the most common, but there are others. It's hard to say what will fit on your frame without seeing the actual mount.

Looks like theres a allen nut on it. Can this shifter be refurbished? I will try to turn that allen nut tomorrow. Hope it dont strip.

Let me guess. You did not apply penetrant (Liquid Wrench, Kroil, Marvel Mystery Oil, etc.) before forcing the tensioning bolt on that shifter...
In the photo, does it have a flat slotted face? If so, penetrant first. Wait a day, then impact driver with flat bit. Voila.

“Suicide shifters” are the stem mounted ones. Those there are downtube shifters.
PB Blaster or Sili-Kroil sprayed once or twice a day for 2-3 days should free those bolts up. You’ll likely need to do the same with the brakes, derailers, stem, cranks, and seatpost.
