1972? Holdsworth Mistral, 56 cm

For sale from Cleveland, OH, 44111
Payment: PayPal f/f
Price: 550$ without shipping. SOLD

For sale is a Holdsworth Mistral bike.
Serial number is 36140. Made probably in 1972.
Reynolds 531 frame, fork and stays.
56 cm from center of crank to top of seat tube;
56 cm top tube (c-c).
Mostly Campagnolo parts:
- Record Strada crank set 170mm, 52/42, marked C in diamont;
- Nuovo Record rear derailleur marked 72;
- front derailleur;
- bottom bracket, english thread marked 1.370x21TPI;
- bar end shifters;
- Record high flange hubs;
Mafac Racer brakes calipers and levers.
Seat post 27.2 mm, is not marked.
Il Primo Del Lusso stem and Primo Extra Giro Di Sicilia bars.
I cannot identify the rims, there is a piece of decal on one, but no clue what is it. Also the tires should be glued, but both tires look to be new and never glued yet. The tires are Clement Criterium.
The paint is good, there are some scratches and chips and also in two places the paint is peeled: on the lug upper the 531 decal, on the seat post (pic.8) and 2nd at the bottom bracket, the non-drive side under the cable housing (pic.11)
The seat is in bad shape, it is Seamless Super.
The bike is in need of: new grease in the head set, glue the tires and adjusting the brakes. The shifting is working fine, the hubs are smooth.
see pictures for more details.

I likes! Very handsome "creamsicle" paint and nice build, a little distressed by the big chip on the BB but elsewhere the paint (and most of the decals) look great.
It's too small for me or I'd be considering another Holdsworth!
GLWS!

I couldn't bring myself to do it, but I wanted to shout "I'll take it!" knowing full well that essentially all of the Campagnolo parts are perfect for a 1972 Raleigh Professional frame set I want to restore and that I'd make more than half the money back just selling the frame. This little Mistral is a beautiful bike in its own right and I hope it all stays together for another fifty years... Cheers!

Very nice. The '72 catalog lists Fiamme rims and I bet that's what the decals you have left is.

Very nice. Beautifully authentic and an amazing classic British frame/paint job, despite the peeling areas/patina.

Very tempting to fill my British-made portion of the collection. Unfortunately neck deep already.

It's a little smaller than I like (56 center to top) or I'd buy it. I'll think about it as a nitto technomic can fix that problem but no doubt it will fit someone better than me.

No one has bought this yet? I keep staring at it, it's a very fair price but I'm 600 miles away. That paint chip seems to be the biggest flaw, but with touch up paint and have it hidden with a frame pump mounted along the seat tube and it would be good to go.

Nice nice bike. Must have a 75mm of bottom bracket drop, maybe more. Just looks small for a 56cm (22”) even with a 22” top tube.
generous clearances but not crazy.

must have been a semi custom with down tube braze on cable stops. Handsome bike, great color.

Bikes: Several, to many to list, mainly vintage British build. From A-Z of brands there are two letters missing, X&Y.

This is undervalued IMO. Paint chips are easy to sort out and the kit on the bike is bang on. It would be snapped in a moment here in UK if it came on sale.
