Nice Paramount. Overpriced, but pretty to look at.

Excellent Condition Vintage 1992 Schwinn Paramount Road Bike O.S. - $594 (Crescent City)

bicycle frame material: steelbicycle type: road
brake type: caliper
condition: excellent
electric assist: none
frame size: 61 cm
handlebar type: drop
make / manufacturer: Schwinn Paramount
model name / number: Series 5 PDG
suspension: none (rigid)
wheel size: 700C
This Classic is sure to turn heads. Yes its a real Schwinn Paramount made with Tange O.S. double butted tubing. The O.S. stands for oversized tubing. It was made to be a little stiffer. And thats what you get! Classic steel road bike ride quality with a stiff power delivery. The bike feels taught and strong yet lively and compliant as only steel can. The Paramount has great rider feed back coming from the Tange fork and Modolo stem. She's a one of a kind delight to ride.

This Paramount was made in the year 1992, and was spec'ed with Shimano 105 (14 speed). She has been stored indoors and is ready to ride away. The size of the frame is the largest size a 61 cm. It will fit anyone 6ft or beyond. Crescent city and Eureka have some of the best road riding in the state. Weather you choose the bike paths or just a cruise by the ocean this Schwinn will bring a smile to your face and remind you of a time when road riding was simple and fun. $594.00 Can deliver to Eureka/Brookings/Grants pass

This Paramount appears to be in excellent condition. I see no rust or major cosmetic issues whatsoever in the posted photos. I know I have seen similar Waterford made Paramount framesets selling for more than double this price and now with Waterford closing this is one of the last remaining Waterford Paramounts so with that in mind I do believe its fair to say $594 is in reality a smoking deal. If I didnt own so many Waterfords already I would grab this bike as fast as I could!

This is a PDG Series Paramount made by Panasonic. Great bike in my opinion but they don't draw the money of the Waterford built ones. I saw the exact same model in my size languish on the local sales for months at $100. Sold or the ad taken down just as I was fixing to go see it.

Hmm interesting.... I read on the Waterford website that they say they made Paramounts from 1980 - 1994 How can you tell this was made by Panasonic?

They did, but not this series of Paramounts.
'Series' Paramounts were made overseas in an effort to trade on the Paramount name at a lower price point. There were several series made in the early 90's with various paint jobs and component groups.
I've owned about a dozen of these over the years. Nice riding bikes. The paint job on this series was my favorite and, I think, held up the best.
Waterford built frames have a W in the serial number for precise identification.

Such a bummer. I am disappointed that I did believe they built all of the Paramounts not just a few between 1980 - 1994. I am kind of shocked they sold out like that TBH. I feel like the original Schwinn company would have never done that. Today I learned.....

Schwinn began outsourcing manufacturing of frames sometime in the 70s. By the time this came out, they had been doing it for awhile. It's not selling out, just capitalism.

Richard Schwinn was involved with getting these PDG Paramounts made. I've shared the one below here several times. Without a doubt it was faster riding bike under me than the Waterford built Paramount I had for several of the years I've had this PDG one. The PDG was just always faster over the same route than the Waterford one despite being several pounds heavier. A Waterford built Paramount is not automatically a superior bike. The one below is built with top of the line Tange Prestige.

Thank you, thats interesting to know. TBT the reality is I effed up because I was now uninformed and made some buying decisions for my collection incorrectly. I will be okay either way because the build kits on the bikes far out value what I paid for them. Who knows maybe some day I will part them out. I will have to ride them all more before I get to that decision point though. And like you said I may end up liking them more than my real Waterfords. TWT
