This is what I am thinking color-wise. When I was maybe 12 or so, there was some hole-in-the-wall bike shop called "Dave's Quality Bicycles" he had a thick Irish accent to go along with the BS he would peddle free of charge, anything material would cost you, naturally. He was a Lotus dealer, and he had an ice blue one with ultra short reach brakes, and the skinniest (fastest obviously) tires known to man. It was a stunner to say the least.

Ever since then, an ice blue bike has haunted my visions, but I never found the candidate. I think my 76/77 Super is the one for the ice blue. I got this frameset from Swimmermike here on BF so thanks there.

Not sure on lettering, black with yellow border, or are there some more options?

Note- I just painted some sections to get a feel for the color, I don't want it any lighter, but could go a millionth of inch darker. In direct sunlight, it looks like it's silver with the faintest of blue hues.

It goes to Franklin Frames Monday, so hopefully within a few months it's ready to be built up.

If you want "ice blue," I wouldn't go any darker. It may look silver sometimes, but any alloy components you use should set off the blue. Ice blue--like ice itself--will look lighter in brighter light.

I could get the paint code from Robvolz, so that if he takes that color out of circulation, another bike that color will pop up and he can never rest.

I like what you have painted so far . Keep in mind that when Jack does it with the multi stage paint , the color and metalicwill "jump out" when it is in the sun. The decal choice is yours to make. My 1975 was one of the years that Colnago used the yellow club on the head tube and yellow lettering and it looks really nice on the orange . I told Jack to stick with original , I wasn't trying to create my own look. With Ice Blue , I think the black would be nice , but again , it is your bike. I will say that Jack ( Franklin Frame) does excellent work and I was very happy with my frame when it got home.He was right on time with the paint job and the price was exactly what he quoted me.

Thanks, I was thinking black because it's historically correct, and my vision is classy and flashy, so anything but black will detract I'm thinking.............

I like the color! Here’s a pic of my black Super, now moved on to another BF’er. It was a repaint somewhere along the way before it came to me.




At some point, they used a wrap around graphic, I had thought mid 80’s but This bike looks like it might be a little earlier than that.(Sorry downloaded pic wouldn’t load so follow link to site) It’s not mine but the modern re-do EPS is.

Have not been to Handlebar, I need to give it a try! I ride Goleta area or wine country (Buellton, Los Olivos) to avoid the downtown Mad Max Anarchie Road action. If I start at 6AM ish, I can get 30 miles, 2500+ feet of elevation and see maybe 5 cars.

No, no, that's not nearly enough lead time. You have to study hundreds of online pictures of bikes in similar colors, create samples of a few likely candidates, carry the samples around for a while so you can compare them in various lighting conditions, obsess endlessly over which precise color best matches the ideal "ice blue" from your childhood memory, figure out how to translate the color into something that your painter can order, worry about the effect of the base coat on the final color, etc., etc.

I mean, if you just want to choose a color and be happy with it, I guess that's your prerogative, but it sounds like a risky way to live if you ask me.

Gorgeous, but yeah, wraparound isn't correct (99.9% sure). Color is AWESOME. That's what's in my minds eye.

I like the original on Canon Perdido, happy they kept it open. The bicycle ornamentation has fallen away. They spent big dollars on the DeLa Vina location.

I think the ice blue is gonna work quite nicely. It is a color I have owned before and it was not too obtrusive when riding. Sometimes the color can bother me when riding, a stupid idea but one that can affect some riders. I have finished removing parts off the 1973 model I got and it will be going to the Pro Kote Indy folks for the new color treatment. A few rust blooms that the guys there will be able to mitigate and keep another 50 year old frame on the road. Smiles, MH

That turned out extremely well. Digital color fidelity is never to be assumed, but on my screen it shown very well.
Chrome renewed or well polished. A definite good choice of painter.
I have a frame set that needs painting but the shipping just leaves me a bit apprehensive.

I haven't checked shipping lately but I paid about $90 each way to Franklin Frame (insured) from SoCal . To cut the cost , I modified a box from Trek to fit a frame only. That was a few years ago! Jack was still a bit cheaper than anyone out here for what I had done, even with shipping. Joe
