Dia Compe clamp-on brake
I've seen plenty of discussions on here and other forums about the pros and cons of drilling a track fork as well as alternatives like the Dia Compe clamp-on brakes. But does anyone who has actually used this or similar clamp-ons have any strong feelings about how they work in the field? Feedback appreciated.

I use the clamp-on brake. They are deceptively sturdy and reliable. Kinda ugly, but I think you can fit almost any road-brake shoes you can get your hands on.

I will go on my first real ride with one of these tomorrow. Will post a more informed reply then as all I can say ATM is that my bike looks like it has an ugly coldsore on the fork.

I have a couple of them on my Keirin bikes for the street. They work very well when set up correctly. Use a piece of inner tube between the clamp and your fork legs to save the paint. Also, they are quite finicky to set up, so the notion of taking them off and putting them back on at will is a bit of a stretch. You should plan to keep them on more than not.

Anyone replaced the BR-101 caliper with anything else? I stripped out the specialized nut that holds the brake wire. I fitted a nut there, but it's really an ad-hoc solution, right?

They make 2 versions, one with a clamp for round forks, and the other with a clamp for oval cross section forks.
Tomo, yes I have replaced the original caliper on both of my setups with the rear from a set of Campy Veloce on one and a Record on the other. They work just fine. I'm sure someone will be along shortly though to tell me that I'm not getting good braking with a single pivot, etc., etc. They don't get used much anyway.

KRUSTY THAT SINGLE PIVOT.... nah hey thanks i was gonna get a set for a single speed that I am building and was wondering if I could use a set of campy record brakes with there bracket.
