Cross Country: Geneseo to Auburn

Add 76 miles to the list. This a very nice area to ride. The shoulders on Hwy 20 today were extremely generous, at least 5' with good, rideable pavement in most places.

Rode through a number of towns like Bloomfield, Geneva, Waterloo and Seneca Falls. Had a nice lunch at the 60 mile mark in Seneca Falls. Greoat riding weather. It was mid 50s at the start and low 80s at the finish.

Most of the hills were closer to the start and then little rollers towards the end.

I scanned my rear tire and just happened to notice 3 wires buried in the rubber. I pulled them all out with tweezers, each about 2-3 mm long. I guess I'll know in the morning if any penetrated the casing and tube. Also saw a couple gashes in this fairly new tire.

I switched to red today!

Nice

Great to see you got some more beautiful weather
Is it my imagination or have you only had 2 or 3 days rest?
How many miles do you average in a year?

You do realize this has become the 50+ cycling version of the movie "The Truman Show" ?.

I'm not sure what we are going to do when you finish. It's been the best thing on this forum since I've been a member.

You may have to pull a Forrest Gump and just turn around and start back !.

I hope you stopped at Tom Whals for some root beer.

My son when to SUNY Geneseo and after his junior year he rode from Niagara Fall to Montauk in 6 days. US 20 East to Albany and then US 9 south to NYC to NY 27 to Montauk.

2 rest days. Correct. I've had some shorter mileage days with mileages in the high 50s that felt like rest days.......I guess. Just doing what my body is telling me. I do drink a recovery drink after every ride. I know it helps but not sure how much. Maybe more than I thought???

I probably average around 6000-7000 miles a year but my average ride is 50-60 miles. I tend to do 1-2 weekday rides with a 80-100 miler on weekends.

The Piedmont and Mountains of NC are really great areas to ride and train from what I'm experiencing. The flattest 1000 miler I can do from my house has 4000' of climbing. I've always thought that was normal.

Thanks for the feedback!

My wife would kill me!!!!

We're both anxious to get back and see our new grandson. He was just about 2 weeks old when we left. Videos and pics of him are nice but just not the same as being there. My daughter lives about 10 minutes from us.

Looks good. That route 96 you crossed I know well as it runs up to Pittsford/Brighton area where my wife is from. Eventually becomes East Ave in Rochester which is sort of a main drag.

I know those roads around Seneca Falls and Waterloo! I've been past that Cayuga St. sign a few times, only heading into Seneca Falls from the North on rides around Cayuga Lake starting in Ithaca and extending up a bit past the North end of the lake to make it a century. Last time I went East on 20 from Seneca Lake (2013), the shoulder was very cracked and littered with debris. Guess it's been cleaned up a bit since then.

The shoulder was still rough in spots but mostly pretty nice. I was riding in the road on descents......other times in and out of the road depending on the conditions. Never an issue though.
