I am one of the six people left on the planet , who does not have a cell phone . I had one once, then got rid of it, the problem is you never get a break, your boss calls, your significant other calls, your mother calls, your co-worker calls, your best friend calls, your worst enemy calls. They all seem to know that you are accessible at all times. I like the idea of riding along a country road, and hearing only the hum of the tires and the song of the dancing chain, then pulling off the road, and hearing a bird or a frog. The last thing I want to hear is some idiot screaming into a cell phone. Cell phones have just about obliterated wildlife photography in popular areas, because any wildlife in the area is gone, long before you can get your camera out, with all the idiots on cell phones.

I just turn my cellphone off.

It's with me in case *I* want to use it. But if I don't, it doen't get used.

Only a few very trusted folks (who know to only call in an emergency) have my cell phone number. Given I have an adult child (of whom I am guardian) who can have sudden and critical emergency needs, requiring my presence or at least a conversation on the cell phone with the hospital or whatever, I find the cell phone MOST liberating, in that I can take long rides and be relatively assured that I CAN be contacted. And, it has happened a number of times.

As I grow older, I spend a greater and greater percentage of my time in the smallest room in our house. If the trend continues, I will need to figure out how to do almost everything while in there - talking on the phone is one of the easy ones to work out.

Me, I think OT posting wins the rude race just so the call is sans video.

(A joke sent to me from a friend.)

I was traveling down the interstate and needed to use the
restroom, I stopped at a rest area, I headed to the restroom,
went into the stall and this is what happened...

"Hi, how are you?"

Now...I'm not the type to start a conversation in a restroom

and I don't know what got into me,but... I answered...

"Doin' just fine!"

then the other person said:
"So what are you up to?"

What kind of question is that? I'm thinking....
this is too bizarre... so I said:
"Uhhh, I'm like you, just traveling!"

At this point I was just trying to get out as fast as I could
when I heard another question.
"Can I come over?"

Ok, this question was just too weird for me but I figured
I would just be polite and end the conversation...so I said:
"No..I'm just a little too busy right now!!!"

Then I hear the person say nervously...
"Listen, I'll have to call you back. There's an idiot in the other stall
who keeps answering all my questions
