As close to ~56 ETT (and probably CTC as well) as it gets with reach around 390mm, desired stand over is 32-33. My ideal fit is 55cm All-City Mr Pink frame (scroll down for geo - Mr Pink | All-City Cycles). 54cm Surly Pacer is a bit small (although numbers are very close with Mr Pink in 55 but All-City feels much much more comfortable and looks better to me with taller headtube). I can probably go for 57 frame if I go with French fit. I also do not like too much saddle to bars drop and I don't like raising saddle and bars too much (another problem I had with fitting myself on 54cm Pacer)

I don't have a lot of vintage road bikes left but I did keep Falcon San Remo frame from 90s, it is full Reynolds 531, excellent rider and dimensions are pretty close to Centurion I found local. Problem is Falcon felt too cramped and I will be rebuilding it for my wife later this year (she absolutely loves it so all good)

Yes, I enjoy it every time someone brings it up! And that is actually very good point by you and Robbie - no eyelets for fenders on Ironman, I am an idiot for not thinking about it first. I like fenders a lot but I will only put them on the bike which was designed with them in mind.

And yes, I remember the thread by Austin Fitz, great score. I would not mind another touring bike in my stable but I have several for now so looking for something faster.

@mongol777 , I think this one is pretty cool . It is a 56 also it looks like he had the fork chromed . On closer look the front rim does not look good and the frame is chipped and rusty , no way would I pay $299. for this bike . I know price can be a factor if you don't mind the question what is the range ?

56 cm are out there, just be patient.

One must be patient to find the Ironman.

Then, one can be impatient when riding it.

Size looks very right.
All depends on the bike/frame, what condition it is and how far it is from me.

Thank you, that gives me hope! They don't seem to pop that often here in Canada. I just recently missed a great condition (by the pic) ~56cm frameset with nice wheelset and 10s Campy triple installed. Could've easily sold wheels and crank and get frameset for free plus some $$$. Asking price was $160 CAD which is like $5 USD with today's crazy exchange rate

And my preference is the frameset, I have nice wheels (or can lace new ones), 10s DA DT shifters, 105RD, several nice cranks, etc. Or I can transfer 105 5700 from my R400. But I definitely will not object to nice complete at a good price

Yes, they kind of pop in and out - I looked for a month or so at the end of this past season (due to this forum also) and then picked up three within a three week time period.

Thank you, that is encouraging! I saw two over last several weeks and may be 2-3 over summer. And I was either too slow or wrong size

Not at all; anything I post can be treated as open source material. I'm pretty sure I found this on one of the Centurion threads anyway. It looks like a snip from a Bicycling magazine review.

I'll check whatever else I may have.

Might be able to pick this up for a decent price if you are near Las Vegas. It looks about a 56cm.

Would it help or hurt the resale value of an 86' LemansRS to swap the entire drivetrain to Shimano 600? The bike is currently nearly OEM with Shimano light action components and Sugino crankset.

Shimano 600 is typically quite good, depending on the generation.

If you're swapping in an earlier (than the '86 frame) Arabesque 600 group, that might not be as awesome.

Is the current light action stuff worn out? Will you be seeking a newer 600 group?

More questions than answers, my apologies.

Not a problem. I should have clarified. I would like to swap the full 6400 "tri-color" groupset on the bike. Seems like this group came out around 87-88' so its of the same period.

Was trying to find some 6400 SIS shifters for a 7 speed swap and came along a 6400 shifters and both derailleurs for $30 so I may be searching for 6400 brakes and levers next. Going for the charcoal component look.

Ha I did not know there was a Light Action https://www.google.com/search?q=cent...UBQaMX8FvXM%3A
IMO the Tri Color would look great . I think I would keep the Sugino crank . I don't understand though are you fixing it up to sell it ?

The crankset would be last if at all. Only if I felt the 42/52t gearing was inadequate.

Now that I just picked up some 6400 shifters, the bike is functionally fine. Just upgrading to upgrade and replace worn out parts. Planning to keep the bike for a long time and do my first century ride in March. I just want to make sure I am not hurting the value if I ever intend to sell. I could always keep the old parts I suppose.

OK , now I see . IMO you would not affect the value at all, it would be a up grade . But I'm not at all familiar with Light Action . Here is one with Suntour Cyclone . Centurion Le Mans RS (53 cm)

The resale value on the Shimano light action parts is probably minimal, so keep them if they are functional.

I prefer to replace components as a group when possible, as opposed to piecing it together as I go. Might keep an eye out in the For Sale section of C&V, as 600 groups come up from time to time (and are usually better priced than the 'bay).

Share some pics back when you get to work!

Will do! Just picked up 6400 group front and rear derailleur and 7 speed shifters for $30! They are an 8/10 quality wise which I am fine with. Excited to ride the bike with its new 7 speed drivetrain and hyperglide vs the older freewheel.

Could anyone point me to an adapter to use a braze on direct mount front derailleur adapted to 28.6mm seat post clamp?

It is surprisingly raining the next 5 days in SoCal so no riding. Bummer.

The duo

So it's been a little while since I've been on here and even longer since I've posted in general, but in the time hence I've lost one Centurion, built up another, and made another all the prettier.

I'm strongly considering selling the one on the right - it's about as close to original everything as you can get (if anyone might be in the market - consider the shameless plug officially inserted) but I don't ride it her nearly as often as her SS larger sister.

If that's a 54cm frame you should PM me. I've wanted a 'Miami Vice' for years.

So...what's made of Tange Prestige tubing, is of the same era as the Ironman, was available only as a frameset, is sexy as hell, AND sitting in the Secret Underground Laboratory?

Inquiring minds want to know.
