Ridiculously cheap vertical stand for my 3 speeds
Don't laugh, it works!
Threw it together over 10 years ago, with the intention of making a better job, but never needed to.
The Nylon pipe clips at the top attach at the ends of the chain stays, directly in front of the drop-outs.
Keeps the bike vertical, is reasonably stable (never had a fall) and doesn't scratch anything.
Doesn't interfere with the SA clutch chain and allows the wheel to be removed, the gears to be adjusted and supports the bike while most jobs are attended to.
Saves wrestling the bike into a 'regular' work stand.
Cost £0.00

I think that you're more proud of this for yourself and that's great, but I couldn't use any hack like this because it would be too clunky to store and too dangerous to leave around inside my home.
I prefer to use something much less obtrusive with rounded edges, and something that is easy to use when I photograph my ads of bikes that I sell.

Soyabean,
Yes I am proud of this functional derelict, it's served its purpose all these years.
It simply hooks overhead in my garage, stored well out of harms way and not a problem.
How much does that malicious looking thing of yours cost?

Bit of a shame, but the answer is quite a lot: £69 (or 2 for £100) in the UK
https://www.amazon.co.uk/BIKEHAND-Bi...00BW4TQ5S?th=1
About the same on Ebay too
I'm maybe in the market for a display stand for doing photos.

Aardwolf,
thanks....I'm still laughing!
As I said, my device was a functional temporary item, knocked up in a hurry using available (free) junk for what was then an immediate need. So functional, it's still doing a valuable job a decade later.
Incidentally, I also mentioned mine allows wheel removal, Soyabean's device plainly doesn't.
If I should decide to make something prettier I could do so, again, using available materials at ZERO COST.
In fact I'll do just that sometime over the winter, just to please Soyabean.
Watch this space.

I could imagine making something similar to the Bike Hand stand with a flat piece of wood with an oval cutout for the tyre and some bent aluminium for the upright (simple bends too).

A piece of 2/3mm mild steel sheet, bent to shape should do a working parody of the 'Bike Hand'.

When someone makes the decision to share what they consider a masterpiece of a modern art creation to the public opinions of BF, they really shouldn't be sad or upset when they invite opinions back saying how it looks like a piece of utter crap.
It's not our fault they used their own time to make that "malicious looking thing".

I think you missed the point entirely.....which was to show how easy it is to make something functional and useful out of, yes, 'crap', for free.
Of course projects such as this have no appeal to someone as offensive as you've turned out to be, plainly a money grabbing ass..le, waiting to fleece any feckless punter who crosses your step.
You demean yourself by your last post, and I have no desire to engage in further discourse with you.
I'll let others here judge your unsavoury character, by your own crass opinions..

This is also true, although I’d probably hacksaw off a few protruding bits of steel before being too keen to crouch over it.

There is no way I would leave a piece of dangerous "malicious looking thing" on the floor only for someone to get impaled by it.
Likewise, I'm no chef and you don't see me passing off kids' peanut butter bird feeder as a cycling energy bar.

I get the satisfaction of cobbling something together that works - I wonder if you've ever used a proper repair stand. A Bikehand unit isn't expensive and gets the bike up so there's no stooping to work on your bike. It's impossible that you wouldn't find it a nicer experience to work on a bike.
Just something to think about since you have no money in your homemade contraption.

I’m sure the OPs cobbled together stand works great, I’d just make sure my tetanus booster was up to date.

Here it is in action!
EDIT: Please note I did the decent thing and disposed of the accumulated heap of victims and discarded bandages.
Wouldn't wish to offend or upset anyone.

The way some of these people talk about your "dangerous" bike stand, you'd think they live in a padded room.
