Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano "Light Action" bar end shifters?

Hey all. Can anyone tell me about the Shimano "Light Action" bar end shifters? I'm building out a TT bike and came across a few sets. I have Dura Ace bar ends on a bike and they work very well. How would the Light Action shifters compare? I can't seem to find much info on them on the Google machine. Thanks.

Just list the product model number you are referring to.
I am aware of Light Action shifters from 35+ years ago, but those would be friction/7sp shifters. I am guessing you arent referring to these, considering its a TT frame build in 2024.

The shifters are listed on eBay. They look like actual Dura Ace shifters: https://www.ebay.com/itm/156190685573

Those might be non-series. Nothing fancy but it's been my experience that Shimano bar end shifters work perfectly and there's nothing to really break. Simple and they work. I'd get them.

The light action is on the left/front derailleur that is friction shifting.
It's just describing the easy shifting process- you don't have to push/pull hard.

I just built up a ~20 year old Trek 520 which uses these. Mine were the 9 speed Dura-Ace SL-BS77. I can't post URLs but you can google "SL-BS77".

They're wonderful. Work like a charm.

And yes, I believe the "light action" is printed on the friction-only front shifter.

These seems to be the SL-BS78, 10 sp SIS or friction. Part of the DA 7800 group. The later BS79 was SIS only.

The light action refers to the spring assist. Earlier version shown below, should be similar.
