Anyone recognize this logo?

Picked up a nice 70s 10 speed today, but don't recognize the logo. No other markings on it. Any help appreciated. Cheers

That's the symbol used on Chimo bicycles, a private label brand owned and distributed by Interex Industries Ltd., a Vancouver B.C. based sporting goods distributor founded in 1969. I believe it's actually the Interex symbol.

Something that obscure in under two hours, very cool. (Or maybe it’s only obscure to the ill-informed American?)

Wait a minute, are you saying Canadians are NOT Americans? 🤔😁

Maybe that's why T-Mar's so smart, is he's really an illegal alien. 👽😲😁

Thanks! I've come across Chimos before, as I'm in Vancouver, but didn't recognize the logo.

While Western Canada was the biggest market, there were a handful of regional distributors in the USA. IIRC, Paris-Sport was one of them. I've got some advertisements that were run in the mid-1970s to introduce the brand, I'll try to find them.

Well, not the sort of alien of which you are thinking. Self portrait, with the Chameleon Circuit turned off. Note the aero optimized cranium.

Was within 30 metres of her at a sci-fi convention. She didn't suspect a thing.

It must be tough to find a helmet that fits right. 😁 But then again, with a good exoskeleton, a helmet is hardly necessary. 😉

I laughed when she was a guest on one of the late night talk shows and came out in character as Zuul.

My first job as a bike mechanic, back in the mid-70s, was with a place that imported "Chimo" bikes from Hong Kong.

It may be one the companies mentioned in the two attached advertisements. They were run during most of 1974 in Bicycling! magazine. Based on the "new name" descriptor, it would appear to have been an introduction campaign, at least for the USA market. Based on mentioned companies, they had quite broad distribution in the USA.

I've seen numerous Chimo from Hong Kong. They have HKB (Hong Kong Bicycles Ltd.) dominating the head badge (see attched). The HKB models appear to be from slightly later, with the earlier ones being from Japan. I've also seen a few from Taiwan. HBK appears to have taken over brand ownership from Interex, circa 1976, though Interex still appears to have been involved in the distribution.

Based on the samples I've seen, the brand appears to have survived into at least the early 1980s, though I've seen nothing above mid-range.

Ha, I go through Rancho Cordova (a suburb of Sacramento) fairly often these days. I got my 2nd Covid vaccine at the Rite Aid on Sunrise. I'll have to go by, and see if Leavitt's Power Tools is still there. 🤔😁 BTW, that would be at least reasonably close to the American River bicycle trail, so very appropriate. 😎
