I think I was in Cherry Point going through A-4 armament school having just been stationed at MCAS Yuma with VMAT-102.

I love the Blackburn article on bag placement for touring. That was an important article BITD which helped Jim Blackburn sell a lot of lowrider racks. The shop I worked in had an ad put out by Blackburn of the different positions for touring bags placed prominently in the shop to talk to customers about their options.

fortunately, almost no one else will care.
I didn't know you spent time at Yuma, or had been in the Corps.
I was in the 102 avionics shop from '78 to '81. I was known to ride my Raleigh Gran Sport down to the squadron from the barracks... or to the ready room, when I had ready room watch duty.
I imagine that working on bikes as a teen provided useful skills for working on aircraft. I'm certain that the troubleshooting skills I learned when fixing aircraft electronics were very useful later when working as an engineer.
I had a few bike riding buddies on base too. That was when I got my first bike shorts, cleated bike shoes, and learned to ride in a pace line.

I wasn’t really into bikes then so I did lots of walking. I spent a lot of long creepy nights in that ready room. It was hot and we worked our butts off but I think it was some of best years of my life. I banged my head on those Aero 20B bomb racks a lot too

Great post. I think the "Who Builds these Bikes Anyway" article mentioned on the cover would be interesting if you could post it. Thanks

But based on the question on the cover, this article is the most likely one.

Thank you. I think you are right about this being the correct article relating to the cover blurb.
