Built My First Set of Wheels

Built up a front and back wheel for my nice weather ride. Was easier than I though, though I did take my sweet time and made sure everything was perfect and true. Since I did not have a tension gauge, I used my other wheels as an example, since they have stayed true for over a year. Yup, stoked to ride this baby again and we shall see how long the wheels last. They are Miche Track hubs, Sapim spokes, and Deep V's.

Front wheel, 2 leading 2 trailing

Back wheel, standard 3x

Looks good, I like the all black and two leading two trailing. I may just have to do that now, it's simple. How does it feel while riding though?

I just finished putting the bike together about 30 minutes ago, and of course it started to rain. Going to have to take it for a test ride tomorrow when its supposed to be sunny. As I was stress relieving the spokes, the wheel felt super stiff though. Not a lot of flex at all.

Congrats - there's nothing like the satisfaction of rolling on your own hoops. Every one of my 5 bikes are on my own wheel-builds. It's an ability that opens up the world to one's choices on rim/hub/spoke combinations.

You even got the valve hole in the right spot....just between you and me, I've had to unlace more than one 1/2 built wheel to get it oriented correctly.

Anything that displays additional "analality" in a build is better - even if no one else notices.

Dammit, now I have to tear down my wheels and re-orient my hub labels.

After a nice hard ride, verdict says, awesome! The hubs spin super smooth and the wheels are nice and stiff, no flex my 145lb body can notice. Any beginners out there, stress relieve your spokes as you build your wheels and they will stay true. After 20 miles, not a ping or strange noise from them.

says who? I never pay attention to garbage like that, yes my valve stems are in the right place, but labels? Please. I haven't had anyone complain yet.

^^ Its basically the same pattern as my front wheel, except that it is a 36h rim and hub, thus becoming 3 leading 3 trailing. It was easier to lace than the 3x.
