Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Picked this up today for the GF... 2012 Masi Apex. Came in at 18.0 lbs on the Park Scale. Will follow up with real pictures as soon as I get her fitted and setup with cages, pedals and computer. It's a Birthday/Christmas present.

Nice Jersey M_Whales. You are easily the biggest advocate for for Raleigh stuff on these forums. I think you may be single handily bringing them back to become a superpower in the bike world again. Plus it seems that whoever is doing their graphics and design for the past 3 years has been hitting home runs. Some of the nicest color schemes available are on the more recent raleighs. Keep up the Ral love man.

I have been a Raleigh fan since the mid 70's and see no need to jump to anything else. They have been making a lot of nice bikes over the years and the newer bikes are outstanding. There are some other great manufacturers but for my riding style I see no need to change from Raleigh, they offer everything I need in a bike.

Thanks

A Continental Home Trainer Tire. It makes a real difference.

I've not yet put it through a training season, so I don't have a good sense of how long it will last. I'm doing two to fours a week on a CompuTrainer. I'll know better in January. However, I get a better workout with the erg. It's money well spent, even if it lasts only one season.

How about some Hollowgram SL's

About 90 grams lighter than my Reds, plus stiffer.

Also dropped my bike to sub 15lbs.

Installed my 6700 53/39 crankset this weekend and took it on a Sunday shop ride; worked great, didn't miss the bottom ratios that I had with the R700 50/34 compact. I might swap the compact back on for hillier stuff, but this is doing fine for me here. I was even able to keep the same chain, only needing to raise the FD a bit.

After the ride, I bought a red/black/white Specialized Prevail helmet (the retention strap on my S-Works was starting to break and I'm told that they're not replaceable, so the wife gave me the A-OK ) and a pair of stainless Arundel bottle cages for the commuter.

I also picked up a custom jersey for my workplace's cycling team. I won't post it here because I still suck and don't want to embarrass myself or our little team.

Keep us updated on that saddle. Is it a Merek, or another brand?

Nice! I just put a deposit down on a set of SiSLs with Praxis rings. I'm surprised they dropped that much weight. That's what I had calculated for my Force to SiSL conversion. Now I just have to wait, and wait, and wait, to see. LBS said I should expect them early 2012...hopefully.

I've got one of the orange trainer tires. I think it is on it's forth season.

Knee warmers!!

Actually Rowan bought tights and arm warmers for himself, and knee warmers for me. Knee warmers were something I was sceptical about until I came to Australia. We go through long springs and autumns here where knee warmers are the perfect choice.

Torpedo7 is a good place.
