Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Death of a Colnago

I've got to say it's pretty amazing how much effort it took to damage that frame. I still don't think he managed to do much damage to the front triangle.

The lack of brains out there is amazing, carbon dust has been shown to have similar effect on the lungs as asbestos. I wonder if this guy would bust up an asbestos frame like that?

And I cant imagine what breaking this frame in this way is supposed to prove?

Carbon doesn't turn into dust when it breaks like that, at least not any substantial amount. Warnings about inhaling dust from carbon fiber are mainly for cutting tubes with a saw. Also, video wasn't trying to prove anything, it was just a nice frame that a shop had to break some how.

I realise that but it doesnt take a substantial amount to do harm, saw cutting creates a lot more but snapping and damaging still creates some. Some people have breathed a huge amount of asbestos dust and never developed a problem, other get problems from tiny amounts. deliberately breaking up carbon right in front of your face is silly, but its his lungs i guess

would like to have seen that with a rear hub axle to see if it would make the rear hold up better.

Seems like a really good way to get a couple of razor shards of CF impaled into your leg.

If nothing else, the video helps calm the nerves of those looking to get into CF for the first time and have doubts about it's strength. However, I think I would have found something other than my leg to prove the point.

I'm the one who broke the frame in the video. To the guy crying about "carbon dust", you're an idiot. How do you think I cut integrated carbon seat-masts at the shop? LOL.

Also, Colnago forced us to destroy the frame in order to get a replacement. Read the damn description, people.

I'll have you know my legs are just fine...

Hopefully you don't cut them with a hammer.

I expect you use a saw. I am not an idiot, and I am not crying - its not my health.
