Dahon parts source?

Is anyone able to point me towards a source for Dahon parts, specifically a 7 speed freehub body for my Mariner's wheel?

It's an unusual type, with a threaded extension that screws into the hub body. It's also kind of short, like 30mm for the cassette shell.

My primary LBS was unable to identify one available (at least initially, here; we speculated it may be easier for me to find one), and I contacted Thorusa.com who's response was a bit perplexing in that he said he did not have that "regular" part and only Dahon/Tern specific stuff.

It certainly does not seem to be a regular part in any common sense, as I cannot find one locally nor listed on the web.

Any tips or suggestions, anyone?

I googled 'freehub body' and got all kinds of pictures of ones with threaded extensions that screw into the hub. From your minimal description without attached pictures I'm having trouble believing it's 'an unusual type'. I promise Dahon didn't specially re-engineer an industry standard part, although they could well have - and probably did on this low cost bike - spec one from a manufacturer other than Shimano or SRAM.

as far as i know this is a regular 7 speed hub , nothing spectacular or dahon specific. I am sure that shimano likes dahon, but i am also sure that they dont make any specific parts for them either .
soooo depending on the old ... which most ****ly is 130 mm those hubs are available all over
or at least should be

Given the speculation you guys are doing, I'm assuming you don't have any references for part numbers? I mean, if you did, you'd know, which you clearly don't.

I don't imagine the piece is proprietary either, but it's certainly not a typical 7 speed freehub. Were it, I wonder what the difficulty in sourcing it would be? They're certainly readily available, although I do not see the type in the abundance of pics @tcs refers to.

It looks like an FH7400 (even googling that specifically doesn't return abundant pics), but I would hope there are other options than vintage Dura Ace stuff. My unit is not marked with anything other than "G H".

I've faxed a request into Dahon, but in the meantime I'll take the question over to the Bicycle Mechanics forum where I might find some folks more familiar with part identification. I'd like to get back up and running ASAP.

Oh, of course! I guess I wasn't expecting it to be anything special, or difficult to figure out, so I didn't think about a pic, but here's one:

Dahon lists an FM32 as the rear hub of a Mariner on their spec sheet .. I'd guess that's a Formula FM32 rear hub .. more guessing is you buy the hub complete because it's so cheap with no user serviceable parts .. and then the re-lace .. just lots of guessing over a cup of joe .. hope you find what you need if I'm off base ..

Ah ha! Bruce...awesome; thanks! I guess I'll just grab a new wheel (or set). Seems silly, but the fastest course of action at this point. Thanks again!

So, just a heads-up to anyone looking for Dahon parts, it turns out the above @BruceMetras has a small shop from which he can supply parts! It's not indicated in his sig or profile, but I recalled from discussions past something about him being in the biz, so I messaged him and asked if he could help, which he can!

So, a friendly FYI to anyone who might need something for their Dahon (or Moulton) that Bruce is a helpful, knowledgeable, and kind resource. At least that has been my experience thus far in resolving what you've seen transpire here.

For future reference, shots of both ends of the freehub are more useful, particularly the spline between the freehub mechanism and the hub shell. There are some variations that prevent interchangeability.

Okay, noted. Thanks for the info.

Bruce is hooking me up with a new 8 speed setup, including a complete rear wheel, so I'll probably give this old one a thorough cleaning, relube, and see if it can pull another tour of duty someday. If it doesn't rehab, it's off to rubbish; no biggie.
