Campagnolo front derailleur interchangability
Hi,
Are Campagnolo front derailleurs interchangeable between 9 and 10 speed?
I want to purchase a new/used front derailleur from Ebay and see a lot of them marked as interchangeable for either 9 speed or 10 speed use. I don't want to get burned.
Thanks!

The last one I bought brand new came with instructions stating that the plastic insert should be removed for 9 speed use thus making the front of the derailleur cage a bit wider.
Works great with a 9 speed chain.
I have never seen a Campagnolo triple front derailleur with the insert and have no idea how well a "10 speed" one works with a 9-speed chain and ring spacing.

I have used a 105 7 speed with a record group working fine, the nature of the brifter allows you to do some really wacky things. Right now Im using in one of my bikes a chorus CT Flat bar one paired to a regular crankset and veloce brifters. Shift fine eventhght campy tells you that it wont work. I have used shimano ultegra fd with a veloce flat bar brifters also. Curious, it worked fine too.

I've used a 10-speed Veloce front derailleur and 10-speed Record Ergo brifters on a 9-speed Shimano Ultegra crank with a 9-speed Shimano chain and it shifted extremely well. It easily shifted as well as an all-Campy 10-speed Chorus group on another bike so they do work together.

mmm.... I was a bit stumped by the word brifter. Then the light went on and I realized it meant brake/shifter. I hope I'm right on this or I'll need to yank the chain on my light and turn it off.
Regarding mixing Shimano with my Campy stuff, even though it might work, I really would like to keep my stuff all Campagnolo.
Thanks for everyone's input. There are a lot more 10 speed front derailleurs on Ebay than 9 speed. I've got quite a selection actually
