First time swapping a BB tomorrow

I've got the right tool, and am switching th BB to fit my crankset. I'm taking out a 111mm centaur and putting in a 102 chorus. The 102 has some existing grease on the threading. Do I clean that off and start over with grease? If so, how do I get it off? What other tips or tricks might there be?

If you have plenty of time to let it dry and aren't worried about the paint on the frame down lower, brake cleaner does a really good job of getting rid of grease.

WD-40 won't damage paint. You should remove the old grease definitely and put the fresh one.

Lol, just wipe off the grease with a rag and apply new grease. Easy. All this other nonsense is very unnecessary

If it's fresh grease on the new bottom bracket threads, leave it alone. Just wipe out any old grease from the BB shell with a rag. If you want, spray a little WD 40 onto the rag and wipe off the old grease. Then wipe with a clean rag, and install the new bottom bracket with the fresh grease.

WD40 or mineral spirits on a rag will clean up the grease easily. If you don't already have a jug of mineral spirits for general bike part cleaning, go to the closest hardware store and get one. It's much more affordable than buying aerosol WD40. You can pour some into a painting pan or other shallow container and wash your parts within.

Mineral spirits will damage the finish on some paints and plastics, WD40 won't.

WD40 = mineral spirits with small amounts of light oil added. Mineral spirits will not damage the paint on your bicycle.

See here.

time bandit is right. Regarding sprays, I'd worry about solvent leaking into the BB's bearings.
