Steel creaking when spreading

So I was spreading a 126mm rear triangle to 130-132 and when I was using sheldon browns 2x4 method it sounded like it was creaking. I took the board out and jumped on it a little bit but there was no creaking by it self so I assume that it was the steel frame. Is creaking bad, or does it not really mean anything?

I would just check around the bottom bracket and at the top of the seat stays for any visible cracks. Unlike carbon, with steel, what you see is what you get. No cracks? Ride on.
