Depends on the trike. Mine is lightweight and takes off easily as fast as my regular bikes.

Short story: I go out for a 20 miler today, 35º with light winds, and I come across a stretch of ice on my local trail. I decide to walk and it's rough and me and the bike are slipping and sliding. I fall hard on my left side, nothing hurt, me or the bike, but I decide to look at my Apple Watch because being the nanny that is, I'm sure it wants to know if I've fallen. By the time I get to it, the damn thing is calling 9-1-1 without even asking. I get it hung up and sure enough, my phone starts ringing and it's county emergency services.
"You called; what's your emergency?"
"My watch called you because I fell but I'm ok.
"You sure you're ok?"
"Yes, I'm fine."
"You must have fallen hard for your watch to directly call 9-1-1."
"Well, it was on ice and I'm fine."
"ARE YOU SURE/"
"Yes, thank you for calling me back."
"One last time, do you need assistance?"
I finally convinced them that I'm fine and they hang up. I tell my wife about it and that I'm going to disable fall detection. She objected.
Anyway, I wonder what parameters the watch uses to go direct to calling 9-1-1.

Looked fairly lightweight, but between how wide the intersection is (6-8 lanes), the hill right before the intersection, and gradient of the intersection itself, his legs were flailing like mad, for very little forward motion. It was almost painful to watch.

I'm going to stick with my earlier guess that it was a dirt source for filling/leveling. However, maybe not for just for the road, but for home site development.

I'd say 90% of the trikes out there, unless motorized, are nowhere near as fast off the line as mine. Still, I'd be hard pressed to to attempt a crossing like that.

This afternoon, I'm sitting at my desk, figuring out how to import a really cool dataset in a format that has heretofore given me problems. Suddenly, my phone goes *PING*, and I look and there's a text from Mrs. GJ's phone:
Emergency SOS
I called emergency services from this approximate location,
You are receiving this message because I have listed you as an emergency contact. So I called, and she immediately picked up and said everything was fine and she had no idea why her phone did that. Emergency services called her back, but she didn't recognize the number and let it go to voicemail, so she had to call them back and convince them it was the phone.

Could be. Maybe they found some special dirt there. Nice to ride through there except you have to ride on 126 for a short stretch. Also Piru. I did a ride with the Santa Clarita club starting in Piru and we rode on the old farm roads including Grimes Canyon to Ventura and back with a stretch on 118.

Anyway, I wonder what parameters the watch uses to go direct to calling 9-1-1.

I am loving the shirt out of that 92 Paramount. What a sublime ride. Tomorrow I intend to take the 80 Trek 414, just for a change of pace. When Bob and Nancy come down from Maine, in March, the Paramount is his for the duration of their stay. One month. I've been riding the 79 Trek 930 off and on, but it feels like the frame, or rear dropout, is cracked. Just sometimes. I guess I'll have to go over it with a fine tooth comb. I feel it when leaning into a tight turn. It feels like the chain stays are not fixed solidly. Columbus SP

I had a Nishiki break the chainstay all the way through, just in front of the left dropout. It was making noise so when I got home I looked at it and the axle was bent. This happened to me a lot with 6 speed freewheel axles so I popped in a new axle and went riding. Still had the noise and I felt like a real dumbass for riding it with a broken frame.

Tomorrow morning is as warm as it’s going to get here. Should be near 0* by 7 and get up to a balmy 11* by Saturday afternoon. There will be a lot of indoor riding this weekend. And all the way until it’s in the 50s regularly.

It's a 13 mile drive to the trailhead. Yeah, the trails are pretty fun out there. The city just started giving them names and putting trail markers up, and they've been cutting new trail up on one of the hills!
