Raleigh Super Course
Someone nearby is selling a 1972 Super Course frame and a few parts in good condition for $60. It has the stem, headset, seat/seatpost (sadly not brooks), and front brake. All but the seat are original. Is $60 a good price? My housemate has asked me to put together a bicycle for him and he likes my Grand Jubile and wants his own vintage road bike. I have some handlebars, a bottom bracket, suntour derailleurs, and period brake levers lying around. Along with some wheels and brakes from the local co-op, I think I can help him put something together. Is this a sound idea?

You'll need to post some pics of the actual bike to get a worthwhile appraisal.

incazzare.
If the frame is in good shape, yes, I'd absolutely buy any Super Course for $60.

Yeh that is definitely a deal assuming it is in decent condition. Do you have photos to post? My SC and another that moved on both had standard English threading but they were "73s.

Here is the frame in question. I rather like the color. When I go see it I will bring an english threaded BB cup and see if it screws in. Is that a suitable test?
Also if all else fails I just shell out $15 and get some 26tpi cups. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Raleigh-Bott...kAAOSwN81WDnOT

It looks like someone was running it as a FG/SS and took off their crank and BB. If that was the case, I would wager that it was English threaded. Taking along a known english BB will work.
Make sure the seat post and stem aren't stuck.

Already on my inspection checklist. Along with a rust check and checking for any cracks/structural flaws. If it is english then I have multiple BB options.

That style of downtube decal font was used through 1972.

Yep, that is how I identified it as a 72 or earlier. Which from my research would mean it could possibly have standard english or 26tpi threading.

Interesting to see transition date given in oddjob2's link. Tend to recall them as being 24 but perhaps have not worked on any examples early enough for 26. My recollection is that headsets remained 26 up through the mid '70's for this model and below. The next model up the range, Grand Sport and above, always seemed to come through with a 24 headset.
