Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't know. Ice cream is pretty good.

As a rule, the 60+ field is thinned by attacks, and though that field was certainly depleted, there were enough kids in the pack that it was still too many for a two-lane road with a yellow line rule. Had anyone alerted us to the fact prior, I know there were enough cars and people to provide a follow car for the various groups.

They knew my bell was rung, I knew my collarbone was broken, yet I was still allowed to drive 100 miles home. The broken ribs and the need for a chest tube were discovered later. At least USAC event insurance covered a good portion of the deductible.
That’s really substandard and old guys, even fit old guys, are at a lot more risk from each of those injuries than kids. At this point, I sometimes question the wisdom of going for a ride with 8 or 10 friends. At least they will make sure I get a ride.

I suspect fatal bouts of lawn mowing hypothermia are quite rare, but I don't dismiss the possibility. The weather hates me.

Maybe I should construct a emergency warming center in the shed?

I agree. Thankfully, I was likely in the best shape of my life, and I bounced back relatively quickly. Of course, racing goals help get me there, but I wouldn't have been in that predicament without such goals. Such a vicious circle.

I have just figured I've used up my fair share of lives provided and may not be so lucky next time.

I was wrong. Until 2021 they were cheaper than they had been in the '80s-'90s. No longer so.

Don't cut the grass in "winter".

A little HTFU works wonders.
