Hi folks,

I am currently using this bracket plate that came with the bike but the "sleeve nut" or whatever it is called has a 1.75mm pitch thread. I am unable to find a suitable thru axle that fits perfectly especially because of that thread pitch. I am looking for a quick release 12x142 1.5mm. (actual thru axle length is 160mm).

I have attached a picture of what mine looks like now and wonder if I can just replace the "sleeve nut" (is it machined pressed in?) or do I have to buy a new bracket plate?

The "bracket plate" part you're talking about is called a "derailleur hanger." They tend to be specific to the bicycle, and probably won't be available with a different thread pitch.

Yeah I contacted The Robert Axle Project already and they don't have the size I am looking for.

Wow. What is the bike? Contacting a dealer (or the manufacturer) might be your best bet, in this case.

Its a Canyon and their customer support is horrible so I rather source it myself. Canyon just seems to put parts that are ODD sizes on the bike which you can't find replacements for. Same thing with my wife's Canyon bike, can't find parts for it as it is odd size.

I’m not sure of the quality or even how the adapters work but this might work. Edited to add that the threaded portion is held on with a machine screw. I’m not sure how strong that’s going to be.

Thanks for listing them. I also went to modernbike.com before however I didn't find 160mm length shafts. I will keep looking though.

They show a few at 166 or 167. If that’s all I could find I think I’d shorten it with a file. Or if you know anyone with a lathe, it would be really easy. Course, you’d have to blacken the machined end. Either aluminum black or even paint would work.

The Canyons I have and have worked on all have M12 x 1.0 thru bolts. Which Canyon are you working on?

My Endurace had DT Swiss axles in 1.0 IIRC. The pic even looks more like a 1.0 pitch, but phots can be deceiving.

Just coming to back to say this probably is more involved than just shortening. You’d almost certainly need a matching tap to extend the threads further back down the axle too. Not impossible to do but without the original axle to compare, it would require a lot of trial and error.

There is also a chat function for help. Also an option is to find a die to chase the threads on the axle. Or get a thread repair file. For my first thru axle bike I messed up the rear axle threads. They are aluminum so were easy to clean up. I did buy a new axle from Trek. And put some grease on the threads. The fixed axle is now my spare.

Last what Canyon bike do you have. Model build level and year. May be someone here that could help if more information provided.

They do that on purpose to discourage bike shops from providing service and parts.

what canyon model? I agree Canyon does not have normal replacement parts. I would never recommend them cs is terrible trying to locate spare parts.

The very first one in the link might not need any real effort. At 167mm its only 7mm too long but that still leaves 13mm or a smidge over a half inch of threads before the axle bottoms out on the frame. None of the frames I have are a 1/2" thick at the dropouts, especially when you realize its recessed slightly to help hold the axle in place.

Wolf Tooth makes a 166mm and 167 mm. Saw them on Jenson. Odd only 1 mm difference. I’d by the 166 and see how it fits. May just stick out a little. Sh but a reduced aero efficiency. But if annoying. Find a friend with a lathe to turn it down. Then paint or use gun bluing to darken.

OP. Odd that a search shows Canyon using a 1.0 pitch rear axle. I’d think they’d use one pitch.

I think you are measure axle incorrectly. The length is overall not under the bolt head.

Also all the Canyon thru axles appear to have 1.0 pitch.

I looked up the hanger part number he is showing and that is the same as is on my Endurace CF8 and my thru axle shows M12X1 printed on the axle. the part number on the thru axle is GP0235-01
