The various marketing driven variations in geometry, clearance, and doodads (eyelets etc) mean we have more combinations and options than ever. If function is your focus, the specs are what matter, not how they are marketing the specs.

Oh no, I can't imagine having multiple items just sitting there when they could be bringing me cash for future projects. I like to keep it simple, one car, one wife, one-ish bike. But Terra with multiple wheelsets is probably the way it's gonna go. Until I probably simplify it further and get mix-use tires.

For me, a "future project" is probably another bike.

There are certainly real differences, but not consistent. You have to compare geometry from one to the other. I have a "endurance bike" (felt Z), had a cross bike for many years for what is now called gravel riding. and now have a couple of "real" gravel bikes. There is no cut and dried difference betwen them, it's all individual based on the manufacturer. All of the bikes I just mentioned are comfortable and would serve the purpose of all-surface roads and non-technical paths. The Felt Z is only limited by tire size, but not geometry.

One thing for certain, I'm not buying a used CX or gravel bike again. Effing dirt everywhere.
